In this course, we use the term returnable packaging material to refer to packaging designed for repeated use in transporting products, parts, raw materials, or commodities between different locations/plants. Examples of such materials are pallets, tanks, cylinders, plastic containers, totes, trays, and more. It is worth noting that terms such as reusable packaging, reusable transport packaging, and refillable packaging can be used interchangeably to convey the same concept.

This course does not focus on packaging materials used exclusively within the plant, such as those utilized for production supply.
The transportation of goods involves three distinct types of packaging:
Primary Packaging
Refers to packaging that directly encloses and protects the product.
Secondary Packaging
Refers to packaging designed to accommodate precise quantities of primary packages. Examples of secondary packaging include boxes, containers, and other suitable forms.
Tertiary Packaging
Includes pallets or large shipping containers used for the purpose of storage and warehousing.
Based on the specific supply chain scenario, any of these packaging types can be used as returnable packaging material.
