Uploading Master Data from SAP ERP to SAP Returnable Packaging Management

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to understand the process of transferring master data from SAP ERP to SAP Returnable Packaging Management

Master Data Upload

In SAP Returnable Packaging Management, there are two options for integrating master data from SAP ERP as follows:

  • Use the Upload Data app for file uploads.
  • Leverage available APIs.

For the process of managing returnable packaging, the following master data objects are created primarily in SAP ERP and should be uploaded to SAP Returnable Packaging Management in the sequence provided below:

  1. Units of Measurement:
    1. Template File: UnitOfMeasurementTemplate
    2. Description: Upload units of measurement relevant to the packaging materials to be managed in SAP Returnable Packaging Management.
    3. Reference in SAP ERP: In SAP ERP, you can access a list of units of measurement in table T006A or directly within the material master records for packaging materials.

      Note

      Note that only units of measurement related to packaging materials need to be integrated into SAP Returnable Packaging Management.
  2. Material Master General Data:
    1. Template File: MaterialMasterGeneralDataTemplate
    2. Description: Upload general data related to packaging materials. This data includes the default material description, material type, material group dimension, and the serial number management flag. If dealing with serialized packaging materials, the serial number profile should be present in both the general and plant data sections.
    3. Reference in SAP ERP: In SAP ERP, such general data is stored in table MARA.
  3. Material Master Plant Data:
    1. Template File: MaterialMasterPlantdataTemplate
    2. Description: Upload plant-specific data related to packaging materials. The plant data includes assignments to plant codes, planning attributes, and pricing data.
    3. Reference in SAP ERP: In SAP ERP, this data is stored in table MARC.
  4. Additional Material Descriptions (Multilingual):
    1. Template File: MaterialMasterGeneralDataTextTemplate
    2. Description: Upload material descriptions in multiple languages. The default description are uploaded as part of the general data.
    3. Reference in SAP ERP: Material descriptions are stored in table MAKT.
  5. Serial Numbers for Packaging Materials:
    1. Template File: MaterialSerialNumberTemplate
    2. Description: This template aids in uploading the serial numbers linked to the packaging materials. Please note that this step is optional, as serial number will be created automatically in SAP Returnable Packaging Management when posting goods receipt or goods issues.
    3. Reference in SAP ERP: Serial numbers in SAP ERP are archived in the SER01 and EQUI tables, with the latter being used when the serial number is assigned to an equipment.
  6. Business Partners:
    1. Template File: Business Partner
    2. Description: Upload data related to business partners with whom the packaging materials are exchanged. This encompasses suppliers, customers, and service providers. The Customer Vendor Integration data model in SAP S/4HANA is fully supported in SAP Returnable Packaging Management.
    3. Reference in SAP ERP: Business partner data in SAP ERP is stored in the BUT000 and CVI_VEND_LINK tables.
