Exploring Performance Tools

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe the key tools used in performance analysis.

System Overview

The System Overview is a performance dashboard designed to consolidate key performance statistics into a unified view. The overview provides administrators with all of the critical statistics in one location, for example, BI query response times, high open story durations, long running data actions and data import jobs, and large planning versions.

Performance KPIs

The KPIs indicate where source systems are overloaded, queries are incorrectly designed, users or reports have problems, data actions, and import jobs consume too many resources.

In the Expensive Scenarios panel, you can see KPIs for:

  • BI queries that run longer than 10, 20, and 30 seconds.
  • Stories that take longer than 10, 30, and 60 seconds to open.
  • Log ons that take longer than 10 and 60 seconds.
  • Data actions and import jobs that run longer than 10 minutes.

For each KPI in the Expensive Scenarios, Errors and Warnings, and Version Sizes panels, you can select the Open Details dialog to display additional information such as runtime history and changelog, as well as scenario-dependent details to assist with troubleshooting performance issues. From this details dialog, the usual performance tools can be pre-filtered to display all details.

Performance Tools

Available Tools

As well as the System Overview, there are some important tools that help you to track, analyze, and optimize performance that are available in SAP Analytics Cloud. There are a variety of tools that serve different functions:

  • SAP Analytics Cloud system performance tools
  • Performance tools and reports that can be accessed directly from your story
  • Browser developer tools

The following diagram shows how each of the tools relate to the frontend, network, and backend.

Select the Right Tool for the Job

Selecting the correct tool when troubleshooting performance issues is important. Each tool has a specific purpose, for example, the Private Versions Statistics and Analysis and Data Action Performance Statistics and Analysis tools are designed to help analyze and optimize planning story performance.
