Adding and Managing Products in Categories

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to assign products to one or more categories using the Assortment View.

Adding and Managing Products in Categories

You usually import categories, products, and their hierarchical relationships from a third-party source like an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system or PIM (Product Information Management) system.

Part of the product data enrichment and maintenance performed in the Backoffice Product Cockpit includes making sure that the product is assigned to the correct parent categories within your product hierarchy.

A product can be assigned to a category by adding it to the product’s supercategories property using the Product View.

However, consider turning instead to the Product Cockpit’s Assortment View, as it specializes in managing the category hierarchy by allowing you to assign products to categories using drag and drop functionality.

This view allows you to perform the following actions:

  • Add or remove categories in a catalog version.
  • Move or copy categories within the category hierarchy in a catalog version.
  • Edit product and category data.
  • Use drag and drop to assign uncategorized products to a category.
  • Use drag and drop to move or copy products between categories. If copied, the product will appear under both the original and new categories.
