Managing Recipients and Notifications

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to define recipients in error handling and customize alerts for specific interfaces.

Recipients and Alerting

A recipient is used to define for which interfaces a (1) user is responsible.

It's also possible to use the recipients to (2) alert users in case of an error.

Visual depicting the two uses of recipients.

SAP Application Interface Framework uses the SAP Alert Management. You can:

  • Create alerts and send notifications to users.
  • Create and use own alert categories.
  • Add company/interface-specific information, for example, content of a key field if you use your own single index table.

Every field of the single index table can also be used to make sure the right business user finds the interfaces in the monitoring transaction. Also, this key field can be part of the message an alert gives if you use your own alert and not the SAP Application Interface Framework default alert that goes together with the SAP Application Interface Framework Standard Single Index Table.

Define Recipients in Error Handling

You can assign recipients and assign them directly to an interface. The /AIF/ALERT_CAT_DEF alert category is used per default for alerts raised by SAP Application Interface Framework.

You can create your own interface-specific alert category to:

  • Give the users some hints on how to solve the error.
  • Include a link that allows the user to start SAP Application Interface Framework from the mail.
  • Assign the alert category to your interface. .

Note

Recipients are typically assigned straight to interfaces, after which they monitor just those specific interfaces.

You can assign a recipient to an interface in AIF Customizing in Error HandlingAIF Customizing in Error HandlingInterface-Specific FeaturesAssign Recipients without Key Fields .

Custom Alert Categories in SAP Application Interface Framework:

  • The /AIF/ALERT_CAT_DEF alert category is delivered with SAP Application Interface Framework. This category is used by default for sending notifications.
  • In order to give the business users some more hints about the errors and how to handle them, you can create your own alert category (transaction ALRTCATDEF).
  • If you define the container elements for namespace, interface name, and interface version with the same names as in /AIF/ALERT_CAT_DEF, SAP Application Interface Framework passes those values to your own alert category as well.
  • You can assign the alert category to an interface in SAP Application Interface Framework Customizing in Error HandlingNamespace-Specific FeaturesConfigure Alerts.
  • You can pass the value of a single key field to your alert category. To do this, you have to specify the name of the container element in Error Handling→ Interface-Specific FeaturesDefine Key Fields for Multi Search.

Customize Alerts for Specific Interfaces

Watch this video where we'll delve into the functionality of recipients and notifications within the SAP Application Interface Framework. Explore how recipients define user responsibilities and trigger alerts in case of errors. Discover how interface mail notifications can be customized based on recipient preferences, enabling efficient error handling and streamlined communication within the interface monitor.

How to Create Recipients for a Single Interface

Watch this demo to understand how to create recipients specific to a single interface to enhance error notifications within SAP Application Interface Framework. Follow the task to simply assign recipients and optimize error notification functionality.

How to Address Messages Depending on Key Fields
