"Hi, Marco. I want to make certain changes in the catalog. Can you help me understand how we can configure the catalog?"

"Definitely, Ajay. There are wide variety of settings available that determine what features and functionalities are enabled, and how they are configured."

"Ok, Marco. To configure the catalog, we need to adjust the initial settings by modifying configuration files and parameters."

"You are absolutely right, Ajay. Let me walk you through the SAP Ariba catalog parameters and explain how to set optional catalog settings."

What are Parameters?
Parameters are site-wide settings that determine the use of different features and functionalities.
Some parameters are only accessible and editable by customer support, while others may be changed by users in the customer administrator user group through the Intelligent Configuration Manager.
Catalog Parameters
Allow Hiding Descriptions in Catalog Search Results

- Specifies whether catalog managers can prevent item descriptions from showing up on the catalog search results page.
- This parameter requires your site to allow setting catalog extensible type properties in the catalog manager user interface.
Possible values for this parameter are yes and no.
- When set to yes, catalog search results still include item descriptions by default, but catalog managers can configure the descriptions to be hidden.
- When set to no, catalog managers can't hide item descriptions in catalog search results.
Note
This parameter requires that the parameter Application.Catalog.ExtensibleTypeAttributeConfiguration be set to yes. SAP Ariba controls this setting.
Create Custom Note Panel Content on the Catalog Home Page

Determines whether catalog managers can create and publish custom content in the note panel on the catalog home page.
This parameter determines whether catalog managers can publish custom content to the note pane on the catalog home page.
If this parameter is set to yes, a catalog display customization task in Ariba administrator will include a catalog home page tab with a note section. Catalog managers can use the note section to display content such as news and help information on the catalog home page.
Display Promoted Items Lane in the Catalog Home Page

Specifies whether the promoted items lane is to be displayed in the catalog home page. Catalog managers configure promoted items by specifying a rank.
This parameter determines whether the feature catalog display lane for promoted items is enabled or disabled.
If this parameter is set to yes, the promoted items display lane is enabled (and is visible to users by default), and catalog managers can configure catalog items as promoted items to appear in the display lane. Also, the recently viewed display lane includes hover pop-ups for items, allowing users to add the items directly to the cart.
Enhanced Management of Favorite Items in the Catalog

Determines how users set, use, and manage favorite items in the catalog.
This parameter determines whether the following catalog features are available for catalog users:
- Enhanced favorites, including the ability to add favorite items to the cart directly from the favorites display lane
- On SAP Ariba Catalog sites, the ability to save cart contents to a favorite folder
Set Days for Note Expiration Reminder

- Determines how users set, use, and manage favorite items in the catalog.
- Specifies the number of days when catalog managers start receiving daily email notifications about the upcoming expiration of the note content in the catalog home page. Value must be an integer between 1 and 7.
This parameter is applicable only if the parameter create custom note panel content on the catalog home page, Application.Catalog.NoteContentConfiguration, is set to yes.
Application.Catalog.NoteExpirationReminderDays specifies the number of days before a catalog note expires when SAP Ariba first sends reminder emails. Reminder notifications are sent every day prior to the expiration date. By default, the value for this parameter is set to 1. The parameter can be configured with a maximum value of 7.
Set the SAP Business Network Full Subscription Synchronization Task to Run Manually or Automatically

Determines whether the SAP Business Network full subscription synchronization scheduled task is to be run manually, or automatically at an interval specified by the Application.Catalog.AutoANSubscriptionSyncInterval parameter.
The Application.Catalog.AutoANSubscriptionSync parameter determines whether the SAP Business Network full subscription synchronization scheduled task must run automatically at an interval specified by the Application.Catalog.AutoANSubscriptionSyncInterval parameter value to download catalog subscriptions from the SAP Business Network.
When set to yes, the SAP Business Network full subscription synchronization task is run as per the schedule. If the value is set to no (default value), a user belonging to the customer catalog manager group must run the SAP Business Network full subscription synchronization scheduled task manually to download the catalogs from SAP Business Network.
Set the Run Interval of the SAP Business Network Full Subscription Synchronization Schedule Task

Specifies the time interval in hours at which the SAP Business Network full subscription synchronization task runs automatically (set by the Application.Catalog.AutoANSubscriptionSync parameter) in a given day. Value must be an integer between 2 and 12.
The Application.Catalog.AutoANSubscriptionSyncInterval parameter specifies the time interval in hours at which the SAP Business Network full subscription synchronization scheduled task runs automatically (set by the Application.Catalog.AutoANSubscriptionSync parameter) in a given day. For example, if the parameter value is set to 4, the task runs every four hours. You can specify any value between 2 and 12. Any values specified lower than 2 or higher than 12 are set as 2 and 12 respectively.
