Mapping an Entitlement from a Sales Document

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe how entitlements are mapped from a sales document

Master Data in SAP Entitlement Management: Assign the Entitlement to Offerings

In the previous unit, we created a new entitlement model that provides a structure for our entitlement. With this entitlement model, we can assign the entitlement to an offering from a sales document, bringing us to the third master data set step, Assign Entitlement to Offerings.

Once the entitlement is created, it's associated with specific offerings (products or services). This linking ensures that when a customer purchases a particular offering the relevant entitlements are automatically generated.

The Assign Entitlement to Offerings step in the Configure Entitlement Master Data process involves associating or linking the created entitlements with specific offerings (products or services) in your SAP system.

In SAP Entitlement Management, entitlements can be automatically created, adjusted, or removed based on changes in corresponding sales documents. Here's how it's typically done:

The process begins with the creation of a sales document. When a sales order is created, it captures the details of what a customer has purchased. This may include goods, services, or subscriptions, among other offerings.

The SAP system then processes this sales document based on predefined rules and then triggers the creation or updating of an entitlement.

This is followed by automatic entitlement creation. The details from the sales document, such as the product or service purchased and the quantity, are used to automatically create or update an entitlement in the Entitlement Management system.

Then there's entitlement mapping. Each product or service in the sales document is mapped to the corresponding entitlements. For example, if a customer purchases a software subscription, then they will be granted access to the software and its features as specified by the entitlements associated with that product.

Entitlement can also be automatically adjusted or removed. There are times when a sales document is adjusted after a sale. For example, if a customer upgrades or downgrades their software subscription, or cancels their service, the corresponding entitlements are automatically adjusted or removed.

This process integrates sales and entitlement management, ensuring that entitlements accurately reflect their associated sales documents, and keeps track of what products or services each customer is entitled to.

The following video shows you how to map an entitlement to an offering.

The Assigned Offering from a Sales Document to an Entitlement

Users can assign entitlements in various ways to fit their needs. For example, it is not necessary that an assignment of an offering is set as a one-to-one condition. Assignments can be end-to-end. One or more product or service offerings can be linked with a single entitlement model. Also, a single offering can be linked with multiple entitlement models.

This flexibility enables administrators to customize the access and privileges according to their business model. For example, they can restrict or provide access based on various criteria or business rules, leading to a more efficient and secure way of managing data and operations.

Let’s review the assignment of an offering from a sales document to an entitlement.

The following video explains how to assign the offering from the sales document to an entitlement model.

Summary

We reviewed how to assign an offering from a sales document to an entitlement model. Next, we see how entitlement generation rules are created, updated, and changed based on sales transactions or conditions.
