Creating Teams in SAP Analytics Cloud

In this lesson, we'll cover the following:

  1. How to create a team from the Teams page.
  2. How to manually add and remove users from a team.

Note

If you are using a custom SAML identity provider, you can also use SAML attribute mapping to automatically assign users to teams based on their SAML attributes. This is covered later in the course in the Configuring Custom and Optional Authentication for SAP Analytics Cloud unit.

Working with Teams in SAP Analytics Cloud

Teams are groups of users that may collaborate on the same stories and share access to folders or objects in SAP Analytics Cloud. Watch this short video to learn more.

Access the Teams Page

In SAP Analytics Cloud, teams are created and maintained in the Teams page.

You can access the Teams page from the Security option in the vertical menu, as shown in the following example.

Create Teams

Some key things to remember when creating teams in SAP Analytics Cloud:

  • Teams cannot be renamed.
  • Only the following characters are permitted: uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, underscores, hash marks, and ampersands.
  • Spaces are not allowed in the Team Name.
  • The maximum Team Name length is 127 characters.
  • By selecting Create a Folder, you can add a folder for team files in the System folder. Members of the team will automatically have full access to this folder, however, they cannot delete or export it. Team folder can only be shared by users within the team and not with anyone outside of the team. For these reasons, we recommend leaving this option unchecked during team creation.
  • A team must have at least one user. By default, the user creating the team is automatically added to the team, but you can remove the user after you add other users to the team.
  • A user can belong to multiple teams.
  • Teams cannot be exported or imported from one SAP Analytics Cloud tenant to another.
The SAP Analytics Cloud Create Team dialog opens when users go to the Teams page and select Add new (highlighted). Users can add users to the team. Remember Team Name cannot be changed but the description can.

Create a Team and Manually Assign Users

Business Scenario

As administrator for The Mock Company, you have been asked to create teams. In future exercises, these teams will be assigned roles and permissions to match the business requirements as described at the start of this learning journey.

Once the teams have been created, you will also manually add members to the teams to see the process, however, in our scenario, the teams wills be dynamically populated using a custom SAML Identity Provider, which is covered later in the Configuring Custom and Optional Authentication for SAP Analytics Cloud unit.

In this practice exercise, you will:

  • Create a team from the Teams page.
  • Manually add users to the team.
  • Delete a user from the team.
