Personalization Mode Exercise

Hello. In this exercise, you will learn how to,  customize the storefront using the personalization module.  First, let us perform the preparation steps:  Step 1: I’ll run the exercise’s setup, Ant target in the command line window.  I’ll need to make sure “ant home” has been set. I’ll navigate to the commerce platform directory  and execute setantenv.sh (on MacOS or Linux)  or setantenv.bat (on Windows).  Then, I’ll execute the setup task for this exercise.  I’ll navigate to TrainingLabTools,  exercise Personalization folder,  and execute the setup ant target.  After the setup task is finished,  the trainingpersonalization extension is created.  Τhis is the extension where,  we will implement our code.  Step 2: I’ll import the trainingpersonalization extension into the IDE,  Let’s observe some code that, has been created by the setup task;  a new item type called OrderCountTrigger is created,  which extends CxAbstractTrigger, and includes a single property: orderCountThreshold.  The Backoffice configuration file is modified,  to display and manage the new trigger type.  Some media items are created, and connected to the banner component:  homeSpeedMVCBannerComponent.  An OrderCountTriggerDao Java interface, and its implementation class, DefaultOrderCountTriggerDao are created.  They will be used by the trigger, strategy to find required data.  Step 3: I’ll need to enable the personalization, feature in the Composable Storefront.  I’ll open personalization-feature.module.ts under  the src/app/Spartacus/features/tracking folder,  and add the PersonalizationConfig instance like this.  That’s it for the preparation steps.  Let’s perform the next exercise steps.  Since the setup steps created OrderCountTriggerDao, and its implementation class DefaultOrderCountTriggerDao, I’ll declare it in the trainingpersonalization-spring.xml file.  The bean declaration should inherit the  configuration of baseCxDao,  and I’ll define an alias for this bean  declaration as a good practice.  Next, I’ll need to implement the trigger strategy.  I’ll open the DefaultOrderCountStrategy java class.  It contains a skeleton implementation,  with TODO comments where I need to add my code. First, I’ll define a new property of the type OrderCountTriggerDao,  and a setter to expose it as a bean property.  Second, I’ll implement the getVariations() method, from the CxTriggerStrategy interface.  If the first parameter is null,  or is not an instance of CustomerModel,  I’ll obtain the anonymous user from the UserService bean.  Once I have my customer at hand,  I’ll find out how many orders are associated with this customer.  Then I’ll use the DAO to get the applicable variations and return them.  Finally, I’ll register a bean for this class, and its dependencies in the, trainingpersonalization-spring.xml file.  Don’t forget to save the file.  I’ll perform ant all to apply my changes.  Then, I’ll restart the commerce server.  It is time to put everything together.  I’ll log into BackOffice as admin,  then navigate to, “Personalization”,  “Customizations” node, to create a new customization  with the code and the name as MVCCustomization.  It should be enabled.  And it should be in the customization group: electronicsCustomizationGroup: Staged, for the electronics-spa Content Catalog.  I’ll navigate to “Personalization”,  “Variations” node,  and create a new variation,  with the name: variationFor3Orders. It should be enabled and part of the previously, created customization: MVCCustomization.  After the variation is created,  I can see that there are no Actions or Triggers associated with it yet.  I’ll navigate to “Personalization”,  “Triggers”,  “Order-Count Triggers” node,  and create a new trigger.  It should trigger the activation, of the previously created variation.  I’ll set the order count threshold as 3.  This means, a customer with more than 3 orders will activate the variation.  I’ll start the Composable Storefront now with the following command.  Then I’ll navigate to SmartEdit and log in as admin.  I’ll make sure the Spartacus Electronics Site is selected  and click on the Hompage link under the Staged version.  I’ll switch from Preview mode to Personalization mode.  Using the Customize button to navigate, to my customization and variation,  I’ll select VariationFor3Orders. I’ll locate the ElectronicsHompageSplashBannerComponent, and click on the plus icon.  I’ll customize the component by replacing the, current banner with the Training Personalized, Homepage Splash MVC Banner Component,  that was created in the preparation step.  Finally, I’ll synchronize my changes to the online version.  I’ll visit the electronics store,  but first as an anonymous user.  I can see the default banner on the homepage.  I’ll log in now as a predefined customer,  who has placed orders for at least three times.  I can see the new banner for the MVC, customer is displayed on the homepage.  I can also register a new customer  and try to place orders for at least three times,  to verify the same behavior.  Last but not least,  I’ll navigate to HAC,  I’ll go to “Console”,  “Scripting Languages”, and choose Browse tab,  expand groovy, right click the script verifyPersonalizationExercise, and load it.  I’ll then execute it to verify my solution.  Congratulations, the exercise has been successfully completed.  Thank you for watching!
