Search Profile Merging

In this video, I will show you how to merge settings in multiple search profiles.  For this demo, I’ve created two search profiles, one is a simple profile testSearchProfile1, the other is a category aware profile  testSearchProfile2. As we know, for the category aware profile, its categories are internally merged first, next I will demo it.  Go to the administration cockpit in backoffice, navigate to system  search and navigation search profile activation set, choose the one: Index type: electronicsProductType Catalog version: electronics product catalog: online  Make sure testSearchProfile2 has been added, if not, just add it. Switch to the adaptive search cockpit,  Choose electronics solr index as the index configuration, Choose electronics product catalog: online Choose testSearchProfile2 as the search profile   In the left part, navigate to Global Open Catalogue  Cameras Digital Cameras category,  Promote Cyber-shot W55 in the product list.  Then choose Digital Compacts category,  promote Cyber-shot DSC-W55 in the product list.  Open the electronics storefront, click Digital Cameras, Cyber-shot W55 is the first product which has been promoted in this category, Next choose compact cameras,  here you will find Cyber-shot W55 is still the first product and Cyber-shot DSC-W55 is the second one in the product list.   This is because digital compacts category has  inherited settings from the parent digital cameras category and the default merging mode is after inherited,  so the result is what we expected, and internal merging worked! Now I will demo the merging among multiple search profiles.  Go to the administration cockpit in backoffice,  add testSearchProfile1  into the current activation set.  Now the activation set has two profiles, and testSearchProfile1 is after  testSearchProfile2,  click the save button.   Switch to the adaptive search cockpit  Choose testSearchProfile1 as the search profile   In the left part, navigate to Global  Open Catalogue Cameras Digital Cameras Digital Compacts category,  promote DSC-W180 in the product list.  Go back to the storefront, refresh the current  page and you will find Cyber-shot W55  and Cyber-shot DSC-W55 is still the top two,  which is the setting from testSearchProfile2,  then it’s DSC-W180, the setting from testSearchProfile1. This is what we expected as the default  merging mode is after inherited Go back to the adaptive search cockpit, click  the Boosts tab in the right configuration area,  under add boost items section, change the merge mode from after inherited to remove inherited. Back to the electronics storefront, refresh the current page, DSC-W180 is the only promoted product!  This is because the profiles are merged with each other according to the activation list order.  In our demo, testSearchProfile1 has higher  priority than testSearchProfile2  and the merge mode for testSearchProfile1 is remove inherited,  so both Cyber-shot W55 and  Cyber-shot DSC-W55 will be removed from the promoted product list.   Thanks for watching!
