Converting Units of Measure (UOM)

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to convert UOM

UOM conversion

Model configuration for SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain supports unit of measure (UoM) conversion, that is, conversion of key figures from the base unit of measure to a target unit of measure using a configured conversion factor.

The figure displays as an example, three different unit of measurements: EA, CS and PAL.

Members from different organizations want to display and edit data in different units of measure. Different units of measure may also be needed for reporting. UOM conversion is available in SAP Integrated Business Planning with configuration and related master data.

The configuration steps necessary for unit of measure conversion are similar to those for currency conversion. However, there are some differences, as follows:

  • Units of measure are not usually time-dependent.

  • Unit of measure is an attribute of a master data type, such as Product.

  • The planning views and analytics provide the user with the option to select the target unit of measure. The conversion is handled by IBP.

UOM Conversion for Key Figures

S&OP supports UOM conversion for converting key figures from its base UOM to target unit of measure using the configured conversion factor. Quantity Key Figures belong to this category. The configuration of UOM is similar to that of Currency Conversion. However, UOM configuration differs where they are usually not time dependent, and UOM is an attribute of Master Data Type like Product. The Planning Views and Analytics provide the user with the option to select the target UOM and the conversion is handled by S&OP.

Demonstration: How to Configure UOM Conversion

Configure UOM Conversion

Business Example

You need to set up the configuration for Unit of Measure conversion for the S&OP process that you are modeling using SAP IBP for Supply Chain.

When the values include ##, replace the characters with the number that your instructor has assigned to you.
