Performing Attribute Transformations

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to transform attribute values

Attribute Transformations

SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain solution supports a special type of transformation that allows you to transform the values of an attribute based on a calculation expression. The calculation expressions can be quite versatile, including key figures, combinations of attributes and key figures, or combinations of attributes and constants. These calculations were most common in displaying previous year sales in the same time period as the future forecast for comparison. Since SAP IBP version 2002, this has been handled by the new formula, but there remains a few use cases for attribute transformations in SAP IBP.

  • Product substitution (for example, Product ID is transformed within a certain Product Family)
  • Alert Flag (for example, enabling filtering on alerts, by setting an attribute to 1, where there is an alert on a key figure)

There are a few common steps that have to be followed to create attribute transformations:

  • Aggregate all attributes at the input planning level that will not be directly transformed and that are affected by the attribute transformation.
  • Create attribute transformation for the attributes you want to be transformed (select New → Attribute Transformation in the Key Figures tab in the Planning Areas app.
  • Create a calculation to retrieve the attributes you have aggregated previously using the transformed attribute.

Note

Attribute transformations are marked by a truck icon.
  • Create a calculation to re-include the attributes (by using a key figure with necessary attributes as an additional input in the calculation)
