Explaining how Attributes can be Modelled as Key Figures

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain how attributes can be modelled as key figures

Assigning Key Figures to a Planning Area

Key figures can be assigned to a planning area in two ways: either directly as time-dependent data, or as a time-independent attribute within a master data type.

In both cases, you must assign them to a planning level. This level denotes the granularity at which data is stored.

Only attributes of type decimal can be used as a key figure.

Note

While it is technically possible to assign a master data attribute as a key figure, it can cause performance issues, so it is generally not recommended.

Note

SAP IBP systems are normalized, and the limit for the number of records for a certain attribute that is modeled as a key figure is 10 MM.
Example of assigning key figures in the system

Master Data Attributes as Key Figures

An attribute as key figure is a specially configured master data attribute that presents master data values into a key figure, usually with a time dimension (but not always).

While inventory optimization algorithms work with the relevant attributes only in the current time bucket, supply algorithms can use inputs from many time periods (current and future).

Demonstration: How to review attributes as Key Figures

Review Key Figures

Task 1: Review the Master Data Attributes That Have Been Used as Key Figures

Steps

  1. From the sample model entities screen in your web browser, display the attributes that have been assigned as key figures in sample planning area SAPIBP1.

    1. On the SAP Fiori home screen, choose the Sample Model Entities tile.

    2. Choose the SAPIBP1 planning area in the left column.

    3. Go to Attributes as key figures.

  2. Record the attributes in the following table:

    Master Data TypeAttributes
    IBPLOCATIONPRODUCT
    IBPUOMCONVERSIONFACTOR
    IBPSOURCELOCATION
    IBPSOURCEPRODUCTION
    1. Using the master data types displayed, record the attributes used as key figures, as displayed in the following table:

    2. Leave the configuration screen open, as you will use it in the next exercise.

  3. Each key figure must be assigned to a single planning level.

Go to Key Figures tab in the configuration of SAPIBP1 Planning Area and search for TLEADTIME.

    1. Your instructor will demonstrate TLEADTIME key figure configuration for you.

  4. Check what attributes had been assigned as key figures in custom planning area ZUNIFIED.

Since that planning area was created using an option Partial Copy only key figures associated with Sales and Operation Planning modality are present. Go to Attributes as Key Figure tab in the configuration of ZUNIFIED Planning Area to check.
