Explaining Input/Output and Helper Key Figures

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Explain the purpose of input/output key figures
  • Explain the purpose of helper key figures for supply planning

Input/Output Key Figures

In a standard system, only a small number of key figures are always input/output. Most of them relate to subnetworks, which allow you to compartmentalize your planning run.

In this training system, many of the standard output key figures are set up as input/output key figures due to subnetwork functionality being active.

The table, Input/Output Key Figures, shows the output key figures that can be used for input/outputs.

Input/Output Key Figures

Key Figure IDDescriptionDetails
IPUPRODUCTIONInter-Subnetwork Production ReceiptsFor subnetworks only.
IPUPRODUCTIONCOMPONENTDSInter-Subnetwork Production Component UsageFor subnetworks only.
IPUTRANSPORTInter-Subnetwork Transport ReceiptsFor subnetworks only. You can enter values here to overrule the transport receipts or adjusted transport receipts values. This decouples a subnetwork and it takes the supply defined here instead of that in transport receipts or adjusted transport receipts.
SUBPERIODFIRSTPRODUCTIONFirst Production SubperiodFirst subperiod of the planning horizon with a production event. Used only with the periods of coverage lot-size procedure.

Helper Key Figures

To facilitate calculations in the system, helper key figures can be set up. A major difference between helper key figures and other types of key figures is that helper key figures are not visible or available in Planning Views.

There are a number of helper key figures set up for supply planning. The helper key figure in the following example is used to calculate the utilization percentage. We see final values in the calculated key figure "Capacity Utilization" in the Capacity tab of your Supply Planning Favorite, however the helper key figure used within the calculation will not be available in any planning view.

For more information on their configuration, see other courses in the SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) for Supply Chain curriculum.
