Building the Transformation

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to build high-level transformation scenarios and prepare a detailed target architecture.

Prepare the Transformation

In this phase, you will leverage SAP LeanIX to build high-level transformation scenarios, prepare a target architecture and choose the ideal transformation path to reach that state. To create this path, you will use the insights from the Discover phase and add initiatives (i.e., projects) to your SAP LeanIX inventory.

Step 1. Build and Structure Your Transformation Program

In this step, you will add initiatives and milestones to your SAP LeanIX inventory. This is crucial to create a high-level plan and structure for your transformation. It also sets the basis to create a detailed target architecture in phase 3 (Explore) using Transformation and impact features (available with the Architecture and Road Map Planning module). In this step, it is important to involve the rest of the ERP Transformation roles (such as Program and Project Managers) to get an overview of all planned initiatives, programs, and/or projects, and to create ownership for maintaining this data moving forward. These roles can be added as subscription roles to the respective fact sheets. Typically, the EA team will kick off this process by building an initial structure in SAP LeanIX.

Step 2. Understand Your Program Context

In this step, you are now looking at transformation scenarios, transformation impact on the business, application integrations, and project dependencies and create a Roadmap Report to get an overview of your high-level initiatives.

Step 3. Communicate and Report

During your transformation, you will constantly evolve the dashboards you built in phase 1 (Prepare) and add new reports and KPIs.

Hands-On: Build High-Level Transformation Scenarios and Plan a Detailed Roadmap

Your task to be conducted in your groups demo workspace: Build high-level transformation scenarios and plan a detailed roadmap.

Steps

  1. Build and Structure Your Transformation Program

    • Find the Finance ERP Transformation Program initiative.

      Note

This fact sheet forms the overall parent initiative, have a look to get a first impression of the whole initiative.

    • From the parent initiative, open the Finance ERP Transformation Program / Headquarter Pilot Project initiative fact sheet.

      • Define timeline for the project:
        • Lifecycle:
          • Plan: Start of Program (Reuse parent milestone)
          • Phase in: 2025-03-01
          • Active: Introduction of New ERP System
          • Phase out: Sunsetting of Legacy Applications
          • End of Life: Project Review & Wrap-up
        • Milestones: add further Milestone:
          • Scoping of Landscape: 2025-02-01
      • Fill in the attributes Business Value, Project Risk and an OpEx Budget.

        Note

Headquarter change would amount to large benefit and moderate risk compared to legal entities and also lower OpEx required.

  2. Understand Your Program Context

    • Create a Initiative Roadmap Report to get an overview of your high-level Initiatives
    • Filter for only Initiatives supporting the Modernize ERP systems goal (three dotsmanage filtersobjectives)
    • Save the report as "ERP Initiatives Roadmap" with unrestricted permissions

    Note

Leveraging Architecture and Road Map Planning provides a comprehensive overview of when and how projects are connected to your overarching transformation program. Milestones are inherited from the highest level down to all child projects, enabling you to easily visualize their impact on your applications in the Roadmap Report.

  3. Communicate and Report

    • Add the newly created report to your dashboard.

    Note

Again help your stakeholders to better understand what they can see on this report and add a short description.
