Testing your Migration

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to test migrated artifacts using partner solutions and updated testing methodologies.

Test Your Migration with Partner Solutions

The migration journey concludes when integrations are tested and business operations run smoothly on the new SAP Integration Suite. SAP offers Regression and Test Tools from partners like Int4 or Figaf to ensure the migration's success.

The figure shows the SAP Offerings, here Regression Testtool from Partner, to migrate from SAP Process Orchestration on the left side to SAP Integration Suite on the right side.

SAP Integration Suite Testing Service

SAP Integration Suite Testing Service is a managed service offering from SAP, which helps to accelerate the move to a cloud-first model and to maintain a hybrid integration landscape.

This Service offering can be used best by customers with SAP Process Orchestration to SAP Integration Suite movement projects and continuous testing against SAP Integration Suite/BTP Upgrades and/or connected systems.

SAP Integration Suite Testing Service supports customers who are willing to plan and modernize their integration platform by moving from SAP PO or BTP Neo Environment to SAP Integration Suite while ensuring and safeguarding their Integrations against incremental updates to BTP.

The figure shows the circle of automated testing of Integration Flows during the migration of SAP Process Orchestration to SAP Integration Suite and beyond.

Customers will get:

  • Completely managed Testing Service from SAP ensuring smooth and safe transition of interfaces.
  • Tests are performed during and post transition to the SAP Integration Suite while reducing risk and complexity.
  • Early defect management and high quality SAP BTP Integration updates by executing continuous regression tests against incremental updates to BTP as well as the connected systems.
  • Faster adoption and shorter QA cycles - Automated tests are created using the historic messages from SAP PO or BTP Neo environment and run them on SAP Integration Suite against the interfaces accelerating the movement.
  • Driven in close collaboration with product development teams, having first-hand information on the release information and timelines, support customers safeguard their investments during and post movement.

As part of the testing phase in every migration project, several products on the market help you to create automatic testing scenarios. Test automation reduces risks to critical business processes and lowers the human effort to cover the test tasks of your interfaces.

Some of these tools support different SAP products (for example, SAP Process Orchestration, Cloud Integration) and can be used not only in the project but also in the future developments and maintenance. Note that it’s important to verify the pricing conditions for each product.

For example, regression and test tools for your migration to the cloud are provided by our partner companies Int4 and Figaf.

The SAP Integration Suite Testing service is developed in Partnership with Int4, where:

  • Automated tests will be created by Regression Testing Tool Int4 Shield.
  • Int4 Shield will be used during and post movement to SAP Integration Suite which will support future developments and maintenance.

SAP has worked with these partners to provide our SAP Process Orchestration customers with free use of their test automation tools during the duration of the migration project, to SAP Integration Suite, up to a maximum of 12 months.  Any continued use of the test tools for ongoing testing, or other capabilities, beyond the migration project would require a license from the partner.

The figure shows the capabilities of the SAP Partner INT4 and Figaf as well as the benefits of automated testing: Faster migration, Higher testing accuracy, Reduced burden on technical and functional teams as well as no business disruption.

While the common question is about tools to automate artifact migration from SAP Process Orchestration or Integration, testing consumes the most time, accounting for 60-65% of the overall migration effort (Gartner). SAP collaborates with partners Int4 and Figaf to provide testing tools for migrating to SAP Integration Suite. These tools, designed by SAP Integration experts, help automate testing, reducing time, cost, and team burden without business disruption. They complement SAP's migration tools and are available on the SAP Store.

INT4 Shield Lite

INT4 (https://int4.com/) is an SAP-recommended partner for migration testing, who offers INT4 Shield Lite. This software is free for 12 months for SAP Process Orchestration to SAP Integration Suite migration.

The INT4 API Tester supports you for extended interface testing (ECC, SAP S/4HANA, ESR proxy migration, UI testing).

The figure explains the INT4 SHIELD capabilities e.g. automatic creation and executions of test cases, automatic capture of messages from productive landscape, validation of message routing, mapping and translation etc. on the left side. On the ride side of the graphic you can see the benefits using INT4 SHIELD e.g. lower cost and risk of migration, minimize the risk of human error, create thousands of test cases in minutes, etc.

The process of migrating from SAP Process Orchestration to SAP Integration Suite involves several steps. First, companies must use the SAP Migration Assessment Tool for identifying which integrations can be automatically moved and which must be redesigned with prepackaged content. Second, they must use the INT4 Shield Lite, an SAP recommended tool, for automated regression testing, reducing dependencies on the functional team’s availability.

Migration is then carried out using SAP's Automated Migration Tool. After migration is complete, all integration scenarios must be tested by running historical messages from SAP Process Orchestration on the SAP Integration Suite. If outputs match, the migration is successful and ready to go live.

Around 65% of an integration project involves testing. Automated testing can shift this heavy load from testing to development, improving development quality and increasing release speed. Such capabilities can be found in tools like INT4 Shield, which enables test-driven development for SAP Integration Suite.

The INT4 Shield can migrate SAP Process Orchestration test cases into SAP Integration Suite test cases with the simple push of a button. It uses the SAP Robotic Crawler to collect and validate tests for each specific interface. After validation, test cases can be migrated to SAP Cloud integration with one click. The current SAP Process Integration/Process Orchestration data serves as an accurate reference for migration, making the process easier and ensuring the enablement of test-driven development.
