Welcome to the lesson explaining SAP's guidelines and policy, SAP's global AI ethics framework. My name is Daniel Schmid, I'm honored to be SAP's Chief Systemty Officer and your host for this lesson. Together with the national laws and regulations, our policy provides guardrails to ensure ethical development, deployment, sale and use of our AI solutions. Our policy is based on the recommendations on the ethics of artificial intelligence by UNESCO. Let's go through our guiding principles together. Proportionality and do-not-harm means human rights and fundamental freedoms must be respected during all stages of an AI system lifecycle. Impact classification mechanisms and measures to prevent harm shall be defined to ensure the safeguarding of human rights and fundamental freedoms. AI system shall not exceed what is necessary to achieve the goal and should be used appropriate to the context. Within principle 2, safety and security measures must be guaranteed throughout the AI system lifecycle. Compliance with SAP's global security policy must be ensured. Data-driven technologies can reproduce, reinforce and amplify patterns of inequality and discrimination exist in the society. This may be encoded into data sources used for the development of AI systems. These biases can negatively impact both the development and outputs of AI systems. AI systems must promote and protect fairness by respecting all forms of diversity. Care shall be taken when there is a risk of negatively impacting under-represented groups. Sustainability principle means AI systems should foster environmental, economic and social sustainability. Negative social, economic and environmental impacts must be avoided. The development, deployment, use and sale of AI systems shall be conducted in accordance with SAP's sustainability policies. By right to privacy and data protection, we mean AI systems should respect privacy and data protection laws. These laws play a vital role in protecting citizens' fundamental rights. The AI systems must comply with the SAP's global data protection and privacy policy, as well as SAP's global development policy and SAP product standards. By human oversight and determination, we ensure that AI systems shall be subject to appropriate human oversight. The rights and freedoms of affected individuals shall exceed those of AI systems. Human oversight shall be achieved through an appropriate governance mechanism. This could include but not be inclusive to human-in-the-loop, human-on-the-loop, or human-in-command. An appropriate form of human oversight must be chosen for each AI system, depending on the context of the use case. Transparency and explainability means AI system's capabilities, intended use, and limitations must be communicated clearly to our customers. Transparency of the AI systems development process, as well as the transparency and explainability of its decisions and behaviors, should be ensured. AI systems are not morally accountable agents and cannot be held accountable for their actions. Therefore, ethical and legal responsibility must always be attributable to humans and existing legal entities. To raise awareness and literacy on the topic of AI and help build new skills, SAP provides several learning opportunities regarding AI and its responsible use. Further, SAP commits itself to promoting global initiatives on digital literacy and access. As far as possible, affected individuals should be involved in the process of validating the output from an AI system. Affected individuals have a right to challenge the output's noncompliance with the ethical principles set in the policy. All the principles are explained further the global AI ethics policy. The policy seeks to ensure that AI systems are developed, deployed, used and sold in line with the ethical principles laid out in the policy. The policy defines our rules and expectations for the AI systems life cycle. I hope you now have a better understanding of the principles on which our global AI ethics policies based on.
