Before diving into various configuration options in the Backoffice, let’s have a look at the effects in the storefront first.
The ‘Free text’ search box offers:
- Auto-corrections when typing
- As-you-type results like text and product suggestions

Search and Navigation features in the storefront
The Backoffice provides business users the option to configure:
- The ‘Free text’ search box (1)
Example: End user can search products by name, summary, SKU or whatever property you configure to become searchable
- Facets and Sorts (2)
Facets are predefined search filter criteria, selectable by users
Example: Support end users to drill down many search results by offering a price range facet
- Order of products showing up in the search result list (3)
Example: Products which are in stock and top sellers will show up first
- Several other configurations

Search and Navigation in the Backoffice
To provide extraordinarily fast searches and the convenience of auto-correction and suggestions, SAP Commerce Cloud relies on an index provided by Solr, a highly configurable search platform.
To ensure speedy and relevant results, it’s important to limit this index to relevant data, such as the product’s name, short description, price, brand, and so on. You may also select certain product properties to act as facets, used to drill down through the search results. You can do this in the Backoffice Administration Cockpit.
The Backoffice Adaptive Search perspective (1) allows you to create the necessary configurations to do the following:
- Define which facets should appear on the storefront (2)
- Promote your selected products so it always appears at the top of the search results list
- Boost certain product, based on their property values, to appear earlier in the result list (3) - for example, when in stock or from a specific brand
