Using SmartEdit to Build the Pages of a Webstore

Content Catalog

Content Catalog

In the last unit, we covered the Product Catalog. For website content, we use the Content Catalog, whose components are managed by SmartEdit, which is our web content management tool.

The Content Catalog is another catalog that typically also supports synchronization between its staged and online versions.

Let’s compare:

Web Content Management

Before you can sell anything using SAP Commerce Cloud, you need to do the following:

  • Build the website
  • Feed it with products from your Product Catalogs
  • Design the customer journey

SmartEdit supports business users managing the web content.

This involves the creation, management, and synchronization of pages.

Out-of-the-Box Page Types

SAP Commerce provides several out-of-the-box page types to provide a simple starting point for page creation:

  • Category Page: Displays the contents of a product category. Example: Product List page, Product Grid page
  • Content Page: Standard content page. Example: Home page, Help pages, Press ?Releases and Policies
  • Product Page: Displays a single product and all product-related information. Example: Product Details page.

The Simplified Web Content Management System (WCMS) Page Model

Web Pages contain components, from simple ones like a Paragraph to more complex components like a Responsive Banner or Product Carousel. To drag-and-drop a component to the correct position inside a page, we leverage content slots:

  • Content slots are associated with locations on a page.
  • Each content slot can be populated by simple or complex components.

Components can be restricted under given circumstances to be visible only to a specific user group or for a specified amount of time.

Note

Fortunately, SmartEdit and Backoffice provide you with many components and intuitive editing and restriction support OOTB! You do not need to become a web technology specialist to get started.
