Activating SAP Fiori Apps via Rapid Activation in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition and SAP S/4HANA

Hello, my name is Leslie Castle. I'm a UX Architect in the SAP S/4HANA Regional Implementation Group. In this video, you will learn how to quickly and easily use rapid activation to cut the activation effort for your SAP FIORI landscape from days or weeks down to minutes. We will look at what is rapid activation. We will look at the prerequisites and important SAP notes, and then we'll have a close look at the Extensibility Specialist role, which we'll use in our demo. And then in the demo, we'll look at how to find an SAP business role and then how to use rapid activation to activate it and also create a test user for it. And then we will finish up with key takeaways. Rapid activation activates your SAP Fiori landscape quickly. The task list, SAP underscore Fiori underscore content activation underscore activation activates your selected SAP business roles for immediate use. Typically, this is done in a sandbox environment. Activities that previously needed to be done manually are now fully automated in task lists and task lists can easily be rerun. It's recommended that no more than 5 to 10 business roles at a time are activated to keep the task list runtime manageable and it's not necessary to activate roles you don't need, especially from a security perspective. Task list SAP underscore Fiori underscore FCM underscore content underscore activation works in a similar manner but activates custom business roles created by customers here we're going to look at the prerequisites for rapid activation there's two task lists the first one you can see here manages the technical configuration and the second one here manages the initial launch pad set up. So both of these task lists must have been run and they both must have completed successfully before we can run our task list to activate our SAP business roles. You need to have access to transaction codes STC01 and STC02 in your back-end SAP S/4HANA system in order to run the task list. You need to know the names of the SAP business role that require activation and you need to have the embedded deployment mode for your SAP Fiori front-end server. There is one very important SAP note for rapid activation, and that's number 2902673. This is the master note for rapid activation for SAP Fiori in SAP S/4HANA, and it contains really specific notes with prerequisites for special roles. So if there's a role that requires either pre-processing or post -processing for your SAP S/4HANA release, it will be detailed in this note that you can see here. So before running any task lists, it's worth having a look at this master note 2902673 to have a look at the prerequisites for your system. in our demo we're going to be looking at the extensibility specialist role so typically this is a role that's very useful in sandbox or development systems and its name is SAP underscore br underscore extensibility underscore spec and it provides access to clean core compliant extensibility tools such as custom fields custom logic extensibility inventory registering extensions for transport and management of situation scenarios so this is a very useful app to use as an example in our demo which we'll move on to so here we're in the SAP Fiori Apps Reference Library the first thing I'm going to do is to click on the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition all app selection and then I'm going to go to the roles filter so here we're just going to look at the role we want to activate, the extensibility specialist role, SAP underscore BR underscore extensibility underscore spec. Here we can see all the apps within the role. I just want to check these are the apps I want to use, which they are the apps I want to use for the demo. So I can see that's all good there. I'm just going to show you the new list view that's available in the the Fiori Apps Reference Library. This is a very useful feature to present a lot of information in a very readable format so you can see app names here, app IDs, UI technologies and so on and you have filters here on the left hand side. For now we just want to use the extensibility role so I just want to go to the back-end system and run the task list. So here in our demo system, I'm going to go to transaction STC01 to look at the task list configuration. Before we run the task list, it's worth noting there's now an option to generate task list runs with variants, so if you want to rerun a task list multiple times without re-entering the same information each time you can use the variant option for our demo i'm not going to use that i'm simply going to generate a task list run for our SAP underscore Fiori underscore content underscore activation task list so here we see the actual task list and its associated steps here before we go to each step I just spread out the columns so the first step we're going to look at is the business roles so I'm going to go and fill in this parameter so the parameter I want to choose is the extensibility role that we looked at so we can see this here I'm going to choose this SAP BR SAP underscore BR underscore extensibility underscore spec role I'm going to save this I'm going to go back to the task list and even though we're in a sandbox system I'm going to choose a real package just in case you ever want to transport your changes anywhere it's worth having a proper package just in case so that's done and then I need to choose an option to generate test users I'm going to generate a test user for our role by filling in these parameters here so the first thing I'm going to do is select a password for my test user and then I'm going to re-enter the password and I'm going to assign a composite role that gives the user access to the SAP Fiori launchpad so I'm going to choose the Fiori foundation user role and I'm going to save that and then we are complete so now all of the steps that we need have been completed and I'm going to just go ahead and start the task list in dialog we've only got one role so processing should be fairly quick so everything's finished correctly if I go to the task list log I can see we've created this user t272 underscore exsp if I click on the summary icon here for the user I can see it's been created with the extensibility specialist role and also a role for the Fiori Foundation user. So now that's done I can go ahead and test the role and the user in the Fiori launchpad. So here we're going to test out our newly created test user. I'm just going to log on T272 underscore EXSP. So we're logging on to our demo system and we can see extensibility tools. There's an extensibility page there. The first thing I'm going to check is the app finder. So if I go here and have a look at the app finder, you can see the extensibility catalogs that have been assigned to the role that's assigned to my user. So there's the custom objects catalog, the responsibility management catalog, and the situation handling catalog. So there's a lot of apps for various extensibility functions that you can see here. I'm going to come back out, back to the home page, and then I'm going to go to User Actions, Settings, Settings, and then you can see the name of the test user there and its name. So you can see we're logged on with the correct user. So this concludes the end of our demo. We've seen a test user get created by Rapid Activation Task List. We've assigned our extensibility role to it and we've logged on and tested it. Here we will look at key takeaways. Rapid activation cuts the activation effort from days or weeks down to minutes. SAP business roles are templates you activate to get started in SAP Fiori and they can be found in the SAP Fiori apps library as we saw with our extensibility specialist example role. Task list SAP underscore Fiori underscore content underscore activation activates your selected SAP business roles for immediate use with optional ready-to-test business user IDs. Task lists can be rerun as necessary using transactions STC01 and STC02. And we're going to look at resources worth knowing.
