Activating SAP Fiori Content in Custom Business Roles - SAP S/4HANA

Hello, and welcome to this learning unit on activating custom business roles using the SAP Fiori content activation task list. My name is Jocelyn Dart. I'm a user experience strategist and part of the SAP S4 HANA customer care and regional implementation group. In this learning unit, you're going to see some typical areas you see in the SAP Fiori launchpad when content is not fully active, how to check if the SAP Fiori apps in your custom business role need to be activated, how to run the content activation task list, which is called SAP underscore Fiori underscore FCM underscore content underscore activation, and how to confirm your business role is active, both as an administrator and as a user. There are a few prerequisites. You'll need to be on S4HANA release 1709 or higher and have the note 2809561 with the Fiori Launchpad content manager in place. That makes it easier to check what's active. And to use both the content manager and the activation task list, you'll need to be on an embedded Fiori front-end server, which has been the recommendation since December 2017. So that's our recommended approach. You will also need some access in your system. You will need access to GUI Transactions slash UI2 slash FLPCM underscore cost, CUST, which is the Fiori Launchpad content manager itself. And you'll need to access to the task manager transaction STC01. You'll also need a transport request and development package because typically you will activate your business roles development environment and transport the activations to your production environment. Optional but helpful is to have the app support launchpad plugin turned on. I'm going to do this demonstration in 2020 feature pack stack one and you'll see how that makes diagnosis just a little bit easier. Okay so let's get into it. Okay so let's start by looking at some typical symptoms you will see when apps are not active. So here I've logged in to the accounts receivable assistant, my user with the role that I happen to know has some issues, and I've gone to the AppFinder where I can see all their apps, and I've deliberately created a couple of problems. So let's have a look at some typical things that you will see. So if I go to, for instance, manage payment advices, I've turned off the entry point for this app, and I get a little error saying the app could not be open because the component could not be loaded, and it gives me a bit of a clue which I can actually use to find that app later in the Fiori Launchpad Content Manager tool. You might get a little error message as a pop-up, grab those details. Another common symptom that you might see is a slightly different approach. Here, if I go to display customer list, and here the entry point to the app is turned on, but the OData service is not, and when I press go, it simply doesn't find anything. Now, that seems a bit suspicious to me because I definitely know there are customers in there. If I have a look in the app support tool, It actually shows me a little bit about what's going on, and I can see some app information, but I can also see there are a few errors happening here, and that's also a big clue that it's not just no data, there's actually an error going on. Again, there's some technical details here that I can pass to my support team to resolve it. Now let's look at how you resolve the problem in the system. To check if my custom business role needs to be activated, I go to the Launchpad Content Manager transaction. This is transaction slash UI2 slash flpcm underscore CUST for Content Manager, Fiori Launchpad Content Manager customizing. What I do in there is I search for my role. So you can see here on the roles tab, I have entered a wildcard to find my role, and then on my role, I simply select my role, and I can go up to this check services feature. Now, I can just check services and get a service activation status which will give me a high-level indicator if there's any problem, or I can go along to check and show services, so I can see where exactly the problem is. Now, this custom business role contains a number of Fiori apps, and you can see here, there are two types of services that need to be active, OData services and ICF services. I can see in the list that most of them are okay, but I've got one here where there's a problem, and on the ICF services, I can see also there's a problem here with one of the services. Now, I could just select the line and go straight to the relevant transaction SICF for ICF services, or I could go to the IW find and maintain services transaction slash IW FND slash main service. That's actually not the smart way to do this. The smart way to do this is to use a task list. So what I do here is I come across to the task list transaction, STC01, the task manager, and I select the content activation task list, which is SAP underscore Fiori underscore FCM underscore content underscore activation. You execute the task list and all you need to do in this task list is add in your custom in business role or business roles that you want to activate. So you can see here, I can enter a list of roles to be activated as parameter, just a text list, or I can simply go to the first line that's selected. I can go to the Fill Parameters icon, and I can select from all of the business roles in the system. Here I can see my role that's not completely active, accounts receivable assistant and I simply assign that and save that to the task list. Now, one other thing I should do is check any other areas that need some parameters. Here, for instance, I want to make sure that I preset. Here, because of course, these changes will be transported from my development through to my production system, I need to give it a prefix in the customer namespace and I need to set a package. I've got a package ready to go here called zivfiori underscore roles and it will also create some workbench requests for me to manage the transport. I simply save that and go back to the task list. All I need to do here is I'll just check the last one, but that normally just shows me a few details about certain special services. So I actually don't need to change that. I can just leave that as is. Then all I need to do is execute. Now, I'm only running this for one role, so I'm happy to execute this in dialog as I wait. But if I had a large number of roles, you can actually start the task in background as well. I'm just going to start it in dialog now and run it straight through. You can see here that it's going through all of the ICF services, the OData services, and it's also updating the menu in the role so that all the authorizations will get generated as well. This is what I want to see. Everything is yellow lights. I might have a double check of the, sorry, everything is green lights. I might have a little double check of the error on this, but I'm not too concerned. There's nothing red. And that is all done now. And also on the transport request if I need it to. So I'm good. If I need to actually check the log, I can just check the little log symbol over here, and that will show me any further information. And that's actually an audit trail too of what's going on. Okay. So I can see here the customizing request created. All right, let's look at what impact that has had on our role. So I've come back to the Launchpad Content Manager Transaction slash UI2 slash FLPCM underscore Cust just to make sure everything is okay before I test it as my test user. And you can see here I have my role selected and the quick way again to check that everything is okay is to use these check services option. So I'm going to check and show services to make sure everything is green now. Yes, I can see all green lights for the OData services and all green lights for the ICF nodes. That's terrific. I can see a nice green light across all of the catalogs and the role itself. Excellent. So now we're ready to see it from my test user perspective. So let's go over to my test user. And here I've refreshed the web browser to make sure I'm picking up the latest information. And I've come back into the accounts receivable assistant in the app finder screen. And let's try those transactions again. So the first one was manage payment advices. Now, if I go into it, you can see the app comes up, and when I press go, I get some data, excellent. I'll try the other Fiori app that had a problem, the display customer list. Now, when I click on the app, it comes up as it did before, but now when I press go, I will actually see some data and everything is well. That's all you have to do. Thanks.
