Adding a Component to a Shared Content Slot in SAP Commerce Cloud

Hi there. My name is Adam and in this video I'll show you how to use Smart Edit to add a new component to a shared content slot. A shared content slot is used on more than one page, so by adding a page component like a banner to a shared content slot, we will alter the look of all the pages that share that content slot. First, I'll login as an admin. And pick my site and catalog version. I don't want to mess up my live system, so I'll pick the staged version. I'll select home page because I know that it contains shared content slots. Right now I'm in preview mode. I'm going to switch to basic edit mode. Do you notice all the padlocks? They represent shared content slots? To change one of these, I have to be in Advanced edit mode. No padlocks anymore, but when I hover over one of those content slots, there is this chain link symbolizing that this content slot on this page is linked with the content slot on other pages. Now I'm going to add a component. I want to add a simple banner component from the component types list. Also, notice there's a saved components list that shows the components that I've already used, so I'll drag it to the content slot. I want to put it in. Notice how some of the content slots turn red while I drag over them? Not every type of component can be put in every type of content slot. Now I'll drop it where I want to and then the pop up window. I can now upload the image files for my responsive banner. First, I'll assign a name to the new component. If I want to make the banner clickable, I'll add the target URL here. This step is not mandatory, so I'll skip it here. Now I can upload the images from my responsive banner. Done. I'll save. Finally, I sync the staged with the online catalog version. This is the end of this tutorial. Thanks for watching.
