Assessing Day One Impact with Release Assessment and Scope Dependency Tool - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Hello everyone. In this video, we will see how the release assessment and scope dependency tool, or RASD, can be used by the SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition customers to assess the day one impact of an upcoming release. We will see an overview of the release assessment and scope dependency tool followed by a demo on how to calculate the day one impact of a particular release using the RASD tool. I'm Asha Pillai. I'm the Product Owner of the RASD tool. I'm from the SAP S/4HANA  Product Success and Cloud Co-innovation team. What is the RASD tool? As you may know, SAP  S/4HANA Cloud follows a half-yearly release cycle. This means that every six months, numerous changes flow into the SAP S/4HANA Cloud systems. Approximately three weeks before the quality or the system upgrade, SAP publishes a what's new in S/4HANA Cloud document, which contains the entire list of changes for a particular release. An SAP customer then needs to read through this change lists to understand the impacts of the release on their systems. The what's new viewer document, although very comprehensive, is not personalised for a customer. This means the customer will then have to personalise this list by filtering it according to their usage. This whole exercise of personalization might prove very time-consuming for the customers, since this usually runs into thousand plus entries. This is the challenge that RASD solves for the customers. RASD is a free tool for all the SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition customers support them during their release and upgrade preparation. Let's see how. I am now going to show you how you can find the day one impact of an upcoming release using the RASD tool. Let's login to RASD first. There are two ways to log into the tool. You will need a customer linked S-user ID for both the options. The first option is to use the URL of the tool. This is linked to the description of this video. Enter the S-user credentials and login. If it already logged in with the customer S-user ID, then you will be automatically signed in. The second option to login is via the SAP for me portal. Open the portal by typing me.sap.com in the browser and enter the credentials. Go to the portfolio and products section, to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, to the additional information tab. And you will find the RASD link under the selected content section. Once you're logged in, you'll be taken to this homepage with your customer ID displayed on the top. You will see several filters. Let's talk about them one by one. The tenant filter gives you options to filter the RASD data based on the test or quality tenant. Dev hundred tenant for 3SL customers and production tenant. The region filter shows all the regions where this customer operates. and information can be filtered accordingly. The release filter gives the option to filter by the current release or the previous release. There are also options to filter by the intermediate continuous delivery. The scope filter, by default, is set to use scope. Use scope here refers to the actual usage of this customer in past few months. E.g. the apps APIs or CDS views used by these customers and also the scope items used by these customers. The preliminary indicator here shows if the source of the information in the RASD is the preliminary what's new viewer, or the final what's new viewer. Once you have set the filters as per your requirements, you can proceed to find the day one impact of an upcoming release. Day one impact here refers to the deletions and deprecations impacting the use scope. To find the personalised impact, you need to concentrate on the first two cards, the usage-based impact card and the usage-based catalogue card. Let's see the usage-based impact card first. This card shows that deletions and the deprecation for your use scope fit the selected release. As you can see, for this demo customer, there are seven apps, zero APIs, and zeros CDS views which are either getting deleted or deprecated. To see the details click on the card and you will be taken to another page containing a table. You will see some more filters and detailed information on the changes. Let's see what do we have in this table? The title here refers to the  what's new viewer title. Clicking on the title link will take you to the corresponding document in the what's new viewer site. Here, in this what's new viewer document, you will find all the details related to the change. The impacted artefact column shows the object which is getting impacted by this change, e.g. here, the app schedule overhead accounting jobs is getting deleted. The corresponding scope item is shown under the scope item column. The preparation required column indicates if a preparation or a configuration is required to consume this change. The details of this configuration will be available in the what's new viewer document. Clicking on this row will show you some more details linked to this change, like the short description, the application component, functional localization, etc. This information which you just saw can also be downloaded into a spreadsheet by clicking on the Download impact button. If you click on this button, you will get a spreadsheet like this. Here, you will see all the changes for this particular customer with all the details including a link to the what's new viewer document. The next step in assessing the day one impact is to look into the usage-based catalogue card. This card shows all the deleted and deprecated business catalogues, as well as renamed app tiles. Let's look into the details. The first step refers to the deprecated business catalogue. Here you will see the details like catalogue ID, successor catalogue title, successor catalogue ID, and the corresponding what's new viewer link. The deleted tab also follows a similar structure which shows you all the deleted business catalogues filtered by this customer's usage. The renamed reptile shows the applications which this customer has been using and which have been renamed in this release. You will see the catalogue ID, the current app name, the renamed app name, as well as the link to the what's new viewer. This information can also be downloaded using the download catalogue button. Combining the information from the usage-based impact and the usage base catalogue card will give you the day one impact. Or the deletions and duplications filtered according to your use scope. To sum up, the release assessment and scope dependency tool is a free add-on tool for all the SAP S/4HANA public edition customers. This tool supports the customers and partners with their release preparations. And this tool can be used to assess the day one impact of a particular release. To assess the day one impact, combine the information from the usage-based impact and the usage-based improvement cards. You can login to the RASD tool using the customer-linked S-user ID. You can either use the RASD URL or you can find the link to the RASD URL in the SAP for me portal. This concludes the microlearning. Thank you for your attention.
