Bringing Apps Onto SAP Fiori Launchpad for SAP S/4HANA Cloud and SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition

Let's have a quick look at the world of a launchpad administrator. You will be running through the whole process of bringing an app onto the launchpad. Let's say there is a new SAPUI5 application developed and now you want to create a tile for this, so it can be put onto the launchpad. You want to assign the tile to a business catalog and assign it to a business role. Once users have this business catalog assigned to one of their business roles, they can access the app via Search or App Finder. If you want the tile to be on the page of a user, you also need to put it onto a page, which in turn is on a space, and this space is also assigned to the business role. Let's begin. The first step is to navigate to the App Manager to create a tile. The launchpad administrator, like any other user, has a launchpad and can access the apps from here. Start the Launchpad Application Manager. First, create a technical catalog. Imagine the catalogs like a folder where you can put in different files. Click on New Standard Catalog. Then provide an ID and a title for the catalog. Enter the relevant package and transport request. Then click save. The newly created technical catalog will open on a new tab. From the Add App menu, select SAPUI5 Fiori App. See the app details below. Enter the relevant details for your app. Then, navigate to the Tiles tab. From the Add Tile menu, select App Launcher Static. Then, enter the desired title and subtitle of the tile, and click save. Now that the tile is created, it's time to add this tile to a business catalog. First, create a business catalog by navigating to the Launchpad Content Manager. Click on Create, and enter the desired ID and title. Then click the continue icon. Now, from the list or via search, select your freshly created business catalog. After clicking on it, select Add Tiles/Target Mappings from below. Then select Add Tiles/TMs to selected catalog. TM stands for target mappings. On the new screen, search for your previously created technical catalog by its ID or title to find your apps. Select the app you created and choose Add Tile/TM Reference. Now you have successfully created a business catalog and added the tile to it. Next, assign the catalog to the desired business role to provide authorization for the users. Start Role Maintenance and search for the business role that you wish to assign the catalog to. Then, navigate to the menu tab and select Display/Change from the options above. Click on the triangle next to Transaction to open the drop-down menu. Click SAP Fiori Launchpad and select Launchpad Catalog. Enter the ID of the previously created business catalog and click Continue. Click save, and you have assigned the catalog to a business role. Now users with this business role can access the apps in this business catalog via Search and via App Finder. Next, create a space and a page for the tile, so that the app appears also on the page of the business users. Start Manage Launchpad Spaces and select Create. After adding the ID, description, and title of the space, check the Also Create a Page box. In this way, you can simultaneously create your desired space and page. After entering the details for the page, select the relevant transport and click Create. The created space and page will automatically open. Click save. Notice that, currently, there aren't any tiles on the page. So, to have the tiles available for adding them to the pages of the space, the space needs to be assigned to the business role as well. Navigate, once again, to role maintenance and follow the same steps. Except this time, select Launchpad Space from the drop-down menu. Enter the name of the space you wish to assign and click continue. Click save. You have assigned the space to the business role and created an empty page. As the final step, you need to put the tile onto the page. To do this, navigate to Manage Launchpad Spaces and select the relevant space. Click on the page and select edit. On the right side, find the relevant tile. Drag and drop it to the page content and enter a section title. After saving, users with the business role Z_BR_DEMO can now access the tile also on this page. Our current user has this business role. So, we only need to refresh the browser window to load the new version of the business role. Then navigate to my home and click on the burger menu. You can now see and pin the created space. Check its contents, including the new tile, and it is good to go. Now, users with this business role can access the app via the SAP Fiori launchpad. Thanks for watching!
