Combining Data Models in Embedded Analytics in SAP SuccessFactors Incentive Management

Hi, my name is Lily.   In this video, I’ll discuss combining data models in embedded analytics for SAP Commissions.   I’ll explain model linking.   Then, I’ll show you how to link two models.   Model linking allows you to include data from more than one data model (standard or custom data model)  in a story in embedded analytics for SAP Commissions.  This can help you to create stories that better meet your business requirements.  The primary audience is Admins and Authors who create widgets with charts or other visualization in the Story.  Payees are primarily consuming what the Authors and Admins have created.   Here are some scenarios where combining models may be helpful. Let’s say an Author wants to link two models provided out of the box to create a chart.   For example, Payee Transactions and Credits need to be used in order to show credits which are related payee transactions. In another scenario, you may want to combine multiple models depending on the need of the story Author to create a table or chart.   For example, Credits, Incentives and Payouts.  The linking of models is only possible at the story level.  It is important to note the following points when using linked models. Performance may be affected by data volume, which is impacted by the number of data models that are in use in a story. Story designers must have background knowledge and understanding of data models, as well as the business requirements. You can only add data models that are included in a single data connection, since a story can use only one data connection at a time.  Currently, only the Commissions data connection is supported by embedded analytics for SAP Commissions. If only two data models are linked, then you can add measures and dimensions from both data models to the story. If more than two data models are linked, then measures from all linked data models can be added. However, dimensions can be added from only one data model. Typically, when you create a story for credits, you pick up stock model “Credits” to represent credits in chart or tabular format. In a scenario where you are using linked models, it is imperative to have more than one model as part of the story.  You need to add the models at the beginning of the story or when you want to combine the data models.  Let’s say you want to add credits to the story and you want to use paid transactions for a combined model. I’ll show you the steps to add the additional model to the story.  I’ll start by creating the two models at the beginning.  I’ll click on the plus icon to create a story.  The window to select a connection opens. I’ll select a connection and click OK.   The window to select a dataset opens.  I’ll select a data model from the dropdown, and Click OK.  The Builder widget opens for a new story object.  Now, I’ll add the second model.    I’ll click the Add New Data Source icon.  The window to select the connection opens.    I’ll select a connection from the dropdown.    I’ll click OK.  I’ll click OK.  I’ll select a data model from the dropdown.  This time I’ll select Payments.   Now I’ll link the Dimensions for the two data models.  I’ll click the Link Dimensions icon.   The dimensions for each data model appear within that data model’s column,  Credits and Payments are the models we selected.   I’ll select a dimension in one model’s column and match it to a dimension in the other model’s column.   You can use the search field to find specific dimensions.  I’ll search for period name for each model.  Each matched dimension appears under the Matched Dimension section.   You can add additional relationships as required.  I’ll click Set to save the column relationships.   Then I’ll click Done.  You can see two data sources have been added to the story.   Once the models are linked, you will see additional dimensions and measures that were not there when you had a single model.   You can select a story object, such as a table or chart. In this example, I’ll select a Chart.  You can see the Data Source, Payments, is listed.   I’ll select the Chart Structure.  I’ll leave the default, Comparison selected.  I’ll leave the Chart Orientation as is.   Then, I’ll select a measure from the dropdown. Since we have a Payment model, I’ll select Payment Value. I want to see this payment by period.    I’ll select Period Name under Dimensions.  You can see the Payment Value per Period Name.    Now I want to see my Credit Values for the same period.   I’ll click Add Linked Models.  Next, select the checkbox of the additional model you want to use in the story object.   In this example, I’ll select Credits and I’ll click outside of the dropdown. Now, I’ll go down to Measure.  I’ll click Add Measures.   I’ll see the Payment which I linked previously and the Credits which I just added.  I’ll select Credits. Then, I’ll check the Credit Value. Here is a chart with credit, transaction values and other dimensions after model linking.  Once you create a story based on the data model, you can add any additional data model to that story. In this video, I’ve shown you how to link data models in embedded analytics for SAP Commissions.  For more information, go to the embedded analytics for SAP Commissions documentation in the SAP Help Portal.    Thanks for watching!
