Configuring the SAP Fiori Launchpad for SAP S/4HANA

Hello and welcome to this learning video on configuring the SAP Fiori Launchpad for SAP S/4HANA. My name is Jocelyn Dart. I'm part of the SAP S/4HANA rig and I'm going to show you how this works. So I'll talk about why you might configure the Launchpad, some prerequisites, and I'll give you a bit of a demonstration of how to set Launchpad configuration parameters and how to transport them across your landscape. Let's start with why you might configure the Launchpad. Well, there's lots of things you can change. Common things you might change is to add a system information bar so that users know if they're in a development or test or sandbox environment instead of production. You might adjust navigation behaviors. For instance, where does the logo take you? You might adjust which is the default visual theme so to affect the colors and whether it's on a light or dark theme. You can even control extension behaviors. For instance, control who can create public views for apps. You can adjust the buttons up the top in the shell bar, that's the very top line, and you can hide some unwanted features such as the SAP menu and user menu in the app finder. To do this, you'll need to make sure first that your Fiori launchpad is active and working. You'll need one or more business role so you can test it. You want to make sure that you're on a minimum of SAP S400 2020, and you'll need access to the GUI transaction slash UI2 slash FLP underscore CUS CONF. And if you want to do transports, you'll also need the SM34 transaction. Now I'm going to give you a bit of a demonstration of how you change these features, and you'll see how very easy it is. So let's have a look at the launch pad as it appears before I configure it. So I have my launch pad active and working but it's on its default settings. So for this user I can see for example there's no hint here as to whether I'm in the sandbox, the development, the test or the production environment. If I'm part of the project team or doing some testing that could be quite handy to know. Another thing I can see here is the search bar is defaulted to all searches because this is particular user has a lot of roles that's a lot of searches I'd really rather it was defaulted to apps because usually I'm looking for an app first before I do anything else. Another thing I can find here is if I go into the sales processing page and I'm just using my favorite pages here and I go into an app and I'm just going to go to any app so I'll pick Managed Sales Orders Version 2, then one of the things I can see here is if I adjust the settings, the filter settings and say, look, I want to have a use case which finds open and in process orders and I then go to save that instead of just saving it for me, I can save it for everyone. Now, I don't really want that feature for all users because that tends to end up with hundreds of views being saved per app. So I want to hide that from most users and only let key users make those public views through AdaptUI. Another thing that happens here is when I click on the logo, that takes me back to the very first page. Now, what I'd really rather do is go back to the last page I was on, which was the sales processing page. Okay. And one more thing over in the app finder, I can see here that I have not just the catalogs, but also the user menu and the SAP menu. Now this I find causes a bit of confusion for users. It doesn't navigate in quite the same way. so I'd like to hide those features. I'm going to bring all their transactions and apps through the catalogues anyway, so I don't need them. Okay, so now let's see how we change that. Okay, so now I'm logged in as an administrator, not an ordinary user. I've got the tools I need to change these behaviors in this role. So you can see here the slash UI2 FLP CUS Conf, and I've got the SM34 that we'll have a little look at later. I've put a reminder on the tile that any changes made here are effectively immediate. Let's go in and have a look at how the parameters work. So you can see here, I can see the existing parameters and their settings. I can also see a bit of information about what each of those settings mean. And I can look up all of the available parameters for my release also in the SAP help in the Fiori Launchpad administration guide for my release. Now to change behaviors all I need to go to is new entries. I'm going to add the parameters that I want to change. I've already looked them up and the first thing I'll do is press enter. Enter will give me the default values and you can see here also it tells me which ones are true false, which ones I can put in a different value for and if you scroll to the right I can see what all these values are. Now I'm going to adjust these to what I want to happen. Now you'll notice that most of these will give you some sort of help. So here for instance I can say I would like pink for the system information bar color and this one is a simple true false so I can change that from false to true. Okay I'm just going to quickly go and change all the settings and I'll come back in a second. Okay so now I have set the settings to the values that I want. App Finder is the access menu is going to hide the SAP menu and the user menu. This one is going to default the search to search on apps. This one is going to mean that the logo button takes me back to the last page I was on this turns on the system information bar this sets the color of the system information bar this is the text I want to show this is the secondary text so the main text is emphasized and the other is not and this hides that public view button so I've made all these changes only took a couple of moments and all I have to do now is press save okay and And now let's go and see how that changes the user's experience. Now these changes are effectively immediate. So as soon as I refresh the user's web browser, these are going to start applying. You can already see up the top here, I have my system information bar showing the text that I wanted to show. So now I know I'm in my sandbox system. I can see here when I open the search that it's now defaulted to search on apps now when I go across to my app so I'll come into the same app manage sales orders version 2 okay and I'll try to do the same thing change a few settings and save that as a new view and you'll notice I can only save private views I can't save public views that's great that's what I wanted and now when I press the home button that takes me back to the page I was previously on and if I go over to the app finder lastly I can find that I only see the catalogs now the SAP menu and the SAP user menu are hidden so that's how easy it is to change okay let's have a look at how you transport these settings. Okay so when you transport you need to use a technique called manual transport that's available in Transaction SM34. This lets you transport selected settings because you might want to transport some of the behaviors but the system information bar is going to be different depending on which system and client you're in. Okay so now I'm back here as my administrator and I've given the administrator the SM34 transaction focused on transporting the launchpad configuration parameters. So you can see here I need to provide a customizing request. Any parameters I'm transporting will be captured to this request ready for transport. Up here you'll see this is how I focused it only on launchpad configuration parameters, I've provided the view cluster slash UI2 slash FLP SET CVC. You'll find that code also in the Fiori Launchpad administration guide and other official SAP help. Let's go in and you can see it's rather similar to where I adjusted the settings, but you can see the property values are protected and up here we have the include in request, delete from request options. So what I'm going to do here is only select the parameters I want to transport. So I'm going to transport the setting to hide the SAP menu in user menu, the setting to change the default search scope to apps and the setting for making sure the logo button returns to the last page I was on. I'm not going to transport the system information settings because the system information bar should be different for each system and client anyway and I may also want to have different settings for the views. For instance in sandbox I may not care if people create public views but in development I want to make sure we're following the correct governance process. So now that I've selected which ones I want to transport I simply say include in a request. This then adds them to the appropriate request. Okay and then to finalize that I simply say save and that updates the request and then all I need to do is transport my customizer request as normal. Okay let's go through some key takeaways. So Launchpad configuration parameters enable you to control launchpad feature centrally. You can adjust visible hidden features, apply usability preferences and even add custom features. These changes are applied immediately to all users and you can transport selected parameters using the manual transport approach.
