Data Integration Options in SAP SuccessFactors Incentive Management

Hi, my name is Lily. In this video, I’ll discuss the difference between Process Integration and  Data Integration.  The three tooling requirements for Data Integration. And, the five Data Integration tools available in SAP Commissions on SAP HANA database.  A question that is frequently asked is, what is the difference between process integration and data integration? Both move the data from the source system to the target system.  There are, however, some differences between the two.  These characteristics are around the volume of the data, the frequency of the data,  and whether it’s done in real-time or not.  In Process Integration, the data that is being moved from System 1 to System 2  is very small and frequent.   Most of the time this integration is done in real-time.  As an example, let’s say an opportunity has been created in System 1.  This opportunity is transferred to System 2 and from this opportunity an order is created in System 2.   This opportunity message will be sent immediately from system 1, and the order will be created in the second system.  In this instance, the data is very small.    In Data Integration, the volumes are very high.   For example, in SAP Commissions we’re talking about more than 1,000,000 records that need to be moved from the source system  to the Commissions system.   The frequency could be once a week, once a month, or once a quarter.   Most of the time, this data isn’t needed in real-time and it’s either unplanned or scheduled.    Hence for data integration, you have specific needs and specific tooling requirements.   SAP Commissions works in an environment where Customers have multiple enterprise solutions that they use,  for example HR, financial planning, ERP, etc.    You need to get the data from these varied solutions into Commissions with some kind of connector.   Connectors are needed for both source and target data stores.  They provide a technical connection to the source and target data stores. These enterprise solutions have different kinds of data that needs to be transformed into a format that the Commissions solution can use.  Enterprise solutions generate high volumes of data, which needs to be transferred to Commissions.   To transfer such high volume of data, we need data integration tools, which support bulk and batch-based data transfers.  Customers also need to extract the data from the Commissions solution using data integration tools for the sales and put them  in their operating systems or send them to their payroll data.     So, the three requirements for data integration are:  Connectors for both source and target data stores Transform/pre-process data loads Support high volume bulk and batch-based data loads Now, we’re going to compare five different Data Integration tools available with SAP Commissions application on SAP HANA  database.  Excel Data Loader Commissions Data Loader Smart Data Integration or SDI SAP Cloud Platform Integration or CPI and  Connect Enterprise, and  Application Programming Interface commonly known as APIs I’ll discuss the various characteristics with which to compare these solutions.  Through this comparison, you can identify some typical use cases based on data volumes and  frequency to help you choose the appropriate tool to use based on the data integration requirements.  The Excel data loader is primarily used for unplanned integration and routine data management.  It’s not designed for high volume data transfers. The Commissions Data Loader tool is part of the SAP Commissions application.   This tool is designed for high volume data transfers.  Data transformation is done with the help of HANA procedures.  Smart Data Integration is designed for high data volume and data transformation.   It uses the Web Integration Development Environment, or Web IDE, which is a graphical tool, used to define flow graphs for data  transformations.  Flowgraphs can also be scheduled to transfer the data from system 1 to system 2.  Note that Web IDE requires technical expertise to accomplish data integrations. SAP Cloud Platform Integration or (CPI) and Connect Enterprise handle similar use cases.  Both tools connect applications layer to transfer data from one system to another.  CPI is available through SAP Cloud Platform,  whereas Connect Enterprise requires additional licenses.  Both tools support mapping techniques to data transformations.  SAP Commissions application supports REST APIs and SOAP APIs.  These APIs are used for real-time integration. Customers can choose the appropriate tool with the direction of the SAP Implementation Teams and their IT departments. Thanks for watching!
