Discovering Privacy and Trust Mechanisms in SAP Customer Data Platform

In this demo, we'll walk you through the processing purpose feature of SAP CDP. We're going to add a new processing purpose and then check existing processing purposes on customer profiles in the CDP console. Hover your mouse over the hamburger button on the top left corner and click on the processing purposes menu. Which is the last menu at the bottom? On the Processing Purposes page. You can see the existing processing purposes definition on the left side. For each processing purpose, you can click on the vertical three dots to either edit or delete the purpose. On the right side you see the top processing purpose is graphic, which displays the total number of transactions processed in CDP and the number and percentage of transactions under each individual purpose. On the top you can find the filter dropdown menu, where you can filter out the existing purposes based on different processing reasons. To easily find the target purpose, you can also use the Sort by dropdown to sort the purposes by external ID, purpose, name or purpose reason. You can also use the search box to quickly narrow down the target purposes via a keyword search. To add a new processing purpose, click the Add Processing Purpose blue button on the top right corner to bring up the create new Processing purpose. Pop up data. Enter a name for the new processing purpose like book view tracking data. Then enter external ID as book view tracking data. For processing reason, you can either enter a new one like Book View tracking or choose an existing one from the drop down menu. You can add more than one reason if needed in the Purpose Description field is optional. It's recommended you add descriptive text like to track customers viewing book page activities. Click the next button to jump to the second tab. On the Inbound Data Governance tab. You can pick one or more events which will require this purpose to process the customer data. Events are grouped under each different source application. You can expand or collapse the source application events by clicking on the arrow on the right side of the application bar. For now, we won't associate this processing purpose with any application or event. Just click next to jump to the last tab on the Outbound Data Governance tab. You see the customer profile entity and activity schemas. Let's select some attributes from the profile entity like first and last name, primary email, master data ID and zip codes. Then select the whole book view activity schema. Click the save button to save the purpose definition in CDP. In the CDP console, hover your mouse over the hamburger button on the top left corner and move down to click the search menu. In the customers section on the customer's page, you can scroll down to see the target customer, or use the search box to quickly find the customer. In the search box, enter Jill to find a customer named Jill McCarthy on the customer info box. You can already see some basic information like customer email address, master data ID, total spends, and total orders, etc.. Click on the greater than button to jump to the full customer profile view. Click on the trust tab to see the existing processing purposes applied to process the customer data. For each purpose, you can see the purpose, definition and the actual date that purpose was applied to ingest the customer data from external systems. If you have many purposes applied to the customer profile, you can use to filter by sort by, or search box to quickly find the target purpose. This completes the processing purpose demo.
