Exploring Site Settings in SAP Customer Data Cloud

In this Microlearning video, we go through the first steps of setting up your site and site configurations in the SAP Customer Data Cloud console.  Once your SAP Customer Data Cloud account is enabled, log onto the CDC Console and navigate to the Sites menu at the top left of your screen.  A site represents a database holding account information and CIAM configurations.  In order to create your site, start by clicking on the “Create Site” button on the top right.  Then type in a site domain and optionally a description.  Now we select the Data Residency, or Data Center, which is a key component of data privacy compliance laws and where your site’s data will be stored.  There are two options: Local Data Center and Global Data Center.  Selecting Global Data Center enables Global Access, which allows you to create a site or site group that can belong to multiple data centers.  For this demo, we’ll select Local and choose the Data Center.  When finished, click okay.  Your site name should now be listed in the Sites table.  At any time you can use the search bar to quickly locate your site by domain name, site ID, data center, description, API key or tags.  The API key is your unique site identifier which is automatically assigned to the site upon its creation.  It’s in charge of identifying the calling site and assessing the permissions available for that site.  Use the API key in every page of your site or external system where you want to add SAP Customer Data Cloud functionalities.  Now we’ll highlight some of the site settings available for your site in the console.  Access the Site Settings page by selecting the three dots Action button or clicking on the Site.    Trusted Site URLs show the URLs, which can be used with the API key.  By default the site domain is included.  The asterisk serves as a wildcard.  Additional Share URLs are an additional list of URLs that are approved for sharing  purposes as part of the domain's allow list.  When a link is shared via the SAP Customer Data Cloud's service, it will validate the link by following the redirect  chain and assure that all URLs on the chain are trusted.  Please use a wildcard to indicate subdomains.  Domain Alias, or CNAME configuration is used  to setup a Single Sign-On Login Portal Page  across Site Groups and for proper integration with Social Networks.  Please note, that Certificate Provisioning is a required step before configuring CNAME.  For more details, check out  Certificate Provisioning in the SAP Help Portal.  Now let’s go to the Identity Providers page, where you can configure social network application keys.  Select Connect under the Identity menu, then click on the Identity Providers tab.  For the SAP Customer Data Cloud service to work in your site, a dedicated external application is required for each social network you wish to use.  The external applications act as mediators,  enabling the SAP Customer Data Cloud service to provide the various functions it offers –  such as retrieving user info or sending notifications.  In the provider popup, you can configure the social network app you wish to integrate to.  Here you can also enable and manage your basic or extended permissions for retrieving certain information from supported providers.  You can find tutorials on the SAP Help Portal that will guide you through the process of setting up external applications for each supported social network.  This concludes the Site Setup Microlearning demo.
