Filtering a Story in Embedded Analytics for SAP SuccessFactors Incentive Management

Hi, my name is Lily. In this video, I’ll show you how to create filters for a story in embedded analytics. Embedded analytics for SAP Commissions has the option to define: A Story Filter A Page Filter And a Filter for specific visualizations Administrators need to understand the different options that are available to the Story Designer and Story consumer and how those will be  applied to your data set and how your different visualizations –  such as charts and tables – are impacted by the different types of filters.  I’ll start by showing you how to add a story-level filter. A story filter will impact all the elements in your story across all the pages. Let’s say a Manager is responsible for managing a large sales team and needs to look at granular level  details for each sales rep’s attainment, he would need to apply some filters to the story. Another example is, a manager wants to see how many service licenses each of his team members are selling in a particular period, he’ll need to configure a filter. First, I’ll activate the Story Filter bar. I can do this in both View and Edit mode as an Author of the story. A story viewer can only use filters set by the story Author.  I’ll click the Add Story/Filter Prompt to select which data source, dimension or measure I want to filter on.  Note that the dimension or measure does not need to be displayed in any of the objects in the story. However, if the dimension or measure comes from a different data source, the data sources must be linked for the input control to affect objects not based on that source. Also note that we can use the Advanced Filter option to create story filters with multiple conditions. In this example, I will filter on the Period Name Dimension. By checking all filters, Users can select an option. I’ll select Allow viewers to modify selections.  This means Users can edit the filter and how they can interact with it. I’ll select Allow viewers to delete filter.  This will give Users the option to remove the filter, if needed. I can select, Single Selection.  This means Users can select one filter at a time. Or, I can select Multiple Selections.  This will show all options. I’ll click OK to save the filter. Note that “all” here refers to all the members selected in the filter. I’ve added the filter to the Story Filter bar, and all the objects on this page that are based on the same data source or on sources that are linked to the same data source have changed to reflect the selection. When I check other pages, the filter is still available.  The second option for filtering is a Page Filter. You can use the Story Filter and turn it into a Page Filter (or you can create a new Page Filter). First, I’ll activate the Story Filter. Then, I’ll click the Add Story/Filter Prompt to select which data source, dimension or measure I want to filter on. In this example, I’ll put a filter on the Credit Name. And, I’ll select Single Selection. Now I have a Credit Name Story Filter. I will move it to the Page. I’ll click Credit Name, then I’ll select Convert to Page Filter. I’ll click OK to convert the filter. As you can see, the Credit Name filter now appears on the page.  I will resize the filter. Let’s say I want to see only the License Credit. I’ll select License. Now I can only see the Direct Credit for Licenses. When I go to the Manager page, you can see that it has not changed. The Page Filter will only impact elements on the page and not the complete story. You can choose which visualizations should be impacted by the Page Filter. You can also create page filters to create new Input Controls. The third option for filtering is to create or change the filter values directly in a particular visualization –  for example a chart, a table, or a donut. In this example, the supervisor wants to see only direct credits in a chart format. First, I’m going to insert a chart.  I’m going to select Credit Value for Measures and Full Name for the Dimensions. Next, I’m going to click More under Chart Structure and select Donut. Note that the process is the same for any visualization. I’m going to add a filter to the donut.  I’m going to select only Direct Credits. In this scenario, I’m not going to allow viewers to modify selections. If I select Rolled Credits, the chart is empty. Notice when I select All, the table shows all credits. However, the donut only shows Direct Credits. In this video, I’ve shown you a Story Filter which applies to all of the elements in all of the pages. I’ve shown you a Page Filter which applies to all of the elements within the same page. Then I showed an element, a donut, with a particular filter which only applies to that element.  Thanks for watching!
