Finding Delta Simplifications Between SAP S/4HANA Releases - SAP S/4HANA Cross-Topics

Hello, and welcome to this learning unit on finding delta simplifications between SAP S/4HANA releases, and this is in the context of upgrading from one SAP S/4HANA release to a higher S/4HANA release. My name is Jocelyn Dart. I'm a User Experience Strategist and part of the SAP S/4HANA Regional Implementation Group. In this learning unit, we're going to find the delta in the simplification item catalog. So you'll get to see how to use the simplification  item catalog and we'll use that to find the delta of simplifications between your as-is, your current S/4HANA release, such as 1511, 1610, 1709, and so on, and your to-be S/4HANA release, such as 1909, 2020, and so on. This unit is meant for business stakeholders, technical and functional consultants, user experience consultants, really anyone who wants to understand the delta simplifications between releases. And of course, that's necessary, because the simplification from business suite to SAP S/4HANA end state is happening over time. So, each release we simplify a few more items, and we're still going. So, we're going to cover how to filter to the simplifications by your as-is, source, and to-be, target, SAP S/4HANA releases and some filtering options there. You can use this handy QR code to get to the simplification item catalog, or you can use the link shown here, https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/sic. So let's go and have a look at that now. Okay, there is one other thing that you should be aware of. A lot of you may know already that you can get to a full PDF, an Adobe document of the simplification list, and you can find that in the SAP Help Portal on the SAP S/4HANA product page. So just to show you how to get to there, you have a quick link here, help.sap.com/sahana_op, for on premise, and that will also always get you directly to the S/4HANA product page in the Help Portal, and it will be focused on the latest release, and you can adjust the release if you need to. Now, when you go to the Implement page, you will find the simplification item catalog and the simplification list. The reason we want to use the simplification item catalog is the simplification list PDF, what that will give you is all simplifications across all releases of SAP S/4HANA, whereas the simplification item catalog, we can sort of filter it a little bit better. So you can launch it from there, this is the exact same link and I have it up here, you can see here the link, so this is a simplification item catalog. Now, when you first come into this, you can see that a number of releases are  suggested. It really doesn't matter, you could just click on whatever's here now to get to the advanced search. Okay. So, because we're moving from one release to another, the first thing we want to do is select our source and target release. So in this case, I'm going to say, we're upgrading from 1709 initial shipment stack to 1909, and we'll go to the most current feature pack stack, which at the moment is feature pack stack two. So once you do that, you can press enter or press Go, and that will filter the list down to what's available for between these releases. Now you can see it is quite a long list, so you're going to need to filter that down further. And there's a few ways you can do that. One is you can filter by category. Okay, so you can see various categories here. So you might want to look, for instance, at look, there's some deprecated functionality, but there's an alternative. Okay, so I can then select that category again, press enter or Go, and it will simplify it down. So there's a few similar ones. So there's functionality unavailable, alternative exists, okay, and again, I can just select it down and you can see the list here. Notice this SAP Note column, I'll come back to that in a minute. Another way to filter, and I'll just take this one out, is by line of business or technology. So you can see here I can just filter all the  names I see here. So I might say, okay, let's see what's happening with manufacturing. What are the simplifications in the area of  manufacturing? And I'll get that list. Another thing I can filter on is business area. So over here, I might say, okay, let me do something around a business area so I might say, okay, I want to, say, look at things to do with the environment, health and safety. You notice here I just had to press enter, I don't have to put any wild cards, you just put part of the name and it will do that for you. And let's try doing it part of the name. Okay, and so you can see here, it's not case sensitive. Another thing that you can do is you can filter  on application area. So, for instance, if I put in FI, for finance,  and again, just press enter or press Go, I will get the finance items. Now, there is one other one that you can look  at. There is a keyword search. The thing about the keyword search in this context is most of the simplification items refer  to a composite area. So you have to think fairly broad when you're using this search. So it's not going to like search on a particular transaction code or something like that, but you can search on things like ABAP, what are the ABAP simplifications that apply, and you'll get the list there. Or you can do something like search on ACR, which is advance compliance reporting, so you can search on those sorts of tags and keywords, common tags that you see. Now, whatever list you get, what you'll notice is you get some details. You actually don't need to click on the on the item and the list itself, you won't see anything interesting there. All you need to look at is the SAP Note. So you'll see here you get an SAP Note. And when you click on that, it's the SAP Note for the simplification item that's going to explain what the change is, what you need to do, when it occurred. And you'll find it may link to other things, it may also have attachments. So it's the SAP Note that you're trying to get to to understand what's involved in that simplification. So, in this learning unit, we learned about how to find delta simplifications between S/4HANA releases.  The simplification item catalog holds the delta of simplifications between your as-is, your source or current, S/4HANA release and your to-be, or target, SAP S/4HANA release. You can filter by source and target release, category, line of business or technology, or business area. You can search by keyword, just remember you need to think fairly broadly for that. And for a simplification item, you could look at the SAP Note to find out what has changed, why it has changed, and options for
