Getting Started in the SAP Customer Data Platform

Welcome to this video of the brand new customer data platform console.  My name is Fred Gass and I head up the global practice  for customer data cloud and customer data platform.  So you'll see that when you first get access to to the customer data platform console, it is very easy to find your way around it and to do a few bits and pieces.  But I recommend that you take a good look at the video before you get started. I'll be showing you a sequence in order to configure the different sections of the overall setup.  That's going to be quite important as you might run into issues where there are some dependencies that need to be filled.  And if you don't follow that sequence, it might make the overall setup process a bit more lengthy and difficult.  So just to give you a little bit of a summary of what needs to be done when you get started, you want to first define your data model  And to do that, you'll go into the customer schema section.  There are two subsections inside the customer schema. One is the profile entity, which is obviously the profile of the user, of the customer.  And then you have the activities schemas.  I said schemas because there are multiple.  In this case, I have three.  And we'll take a look at how this is set up and customized as well.  Once you have your main data model set up, I'd recommend that you go ahead and create your segments, which is basically a way to categorize your users real-time within the Customer Data Platform, and also create your activity indicators Those activity indicators are calculated fields, also real-time, like the segments, that are going to take some properties of your activity schema.  So there is already a dependency between activity indicators and the schema that you have set up inside the activities subsection  And this is also going to have other dependencies in other parts of the setup profile.  So once you have your data model defined, your processing purposes is going to be next.  So once again, the processing purpose is going to be quite an essential part of the overall configuration process,  as the sort of privacy aspect of the overall configuration is really important.  There's also dependencies from the processing purpose with the schema, both the profile activity schema, also what you have created inside the segments and activity indicators.  So once we have all of this set up, we can then start configuring the ingestion and the output of data.  So the first place where you want to head is inside the sources to set up all the applications where you're going to be pulling data from. So in this case, I've already set up a few, but we'll go through the process in a bit more detail.  And you also can create your destinations,  which is, once you have ingested data and you've done all your processing of data in terms of categorization, segments, activity indicators, then you can push that data out  using the destinations application.  And those applications are actually used by a couple of different ways of pushing data. One is audiences.  an audience allows you to sort of create a filter  of your overall customer population and push that data as a one-off  to one of our supported platforms.  There's also journeys that you can configure,  which will allow you to create a set of sort of conditions  and based on those conditions, push that data out in sort of real time to other systems.
