How to  Choose Right for Your Business Requirements SAP CPS and SAP ePP/DS - SAP S/4HANA Manufacturing

Hello everybody and welcome to MicroLearnings about how to make the right decision in the area of production capacity planning and scheduling for your requirements with SAP Solutions. My name is Marcus, and I work in the area of SAP S4HANA product success and customer co-innovation here at SAP. During today's microlearning, we want to enable those two topics. First, what are the capabilities of capacity planning and scheduling and the concept behind it? Second, when embedded production planning and detailed scheduling should be chosen for your business requirements? When we talk about capacity planning, we mean the production capacity that is required to meet the changing demands for your products. Let's first take a look at capacity planning and scheduling. Short, CPS. The three following apps will help you plan your work center capacity in S4HANA Cloud. Important to know is that those three apps are based on the following concept. First, capacity maintenance. You can manage the work center capacity across a horizon by adjusting the intervals or shifts from within this capacity. This ensures a better utilization of the work center. Second, capacity evaluation. You can use capacity evaluations to analyze capacity loads in your company by adjusting the planning horizon and the area of responsibility. The available capacities and capacity requirements can be selected according to various criteria for the analysis. Let's start to explore the app Manage WorkCenter Capacity further. With this app you can visualize the capacities of work centers and the load on work centers. The app allows you to detect overload situations along with a cumulative overload situation across the selected evaluation horizons based on bucket or grouping types, such as days or weeks. For WorkCenter, you balance several factors to ensure that you are optimally utilizing its capacity such that there are no overloads across your evaluation horizon, as well as no backlog in terms of orders or operations. Let's take a closer look at the app Schedule Production. With this app, you can pre-schedule your orders to be dispatched from a Pacemaker WorkCenter based on its priority. You can select the source of supply, speaking of the production version, and the work centers to dispatch the orders on the dates that you choose. A work center with a capacity duration that meets a capacity requirement to complete the operation gets highlighted for ease of selection. The app uses midpoint scheduling to adjust the operational time of dispatch, reschedule, and so on according to the strategy that you have set. You can switch production versions when the work center capacity is insufficient or reschedule orders that are coinciding in a time slot. Furthermore, you can filter orders based on your area of responsibility and industry type, discrete or process industry. For those companies that use variant configurations, you can navigate to the Variant Configuration screen to view the product configuration for the production orders, indicated by an icon. Last but not least, let's take a look at the third app, Monitor WorkCenter, Schedules. With this app, you get an overview of the operations performed at your work centers by visualizing their schedules over a time period. Pacemaker Work Centers are critical as they help determine the schedule of an order. You can use this app to plan optimum utilization of Pacemaker Work Centers by matching their capacities with those of the orders that have to be dispatched. Now the interesting question arises, when do you need SAP Impedit production planning and detailed scheduling? You need it when you have the following complex business requirements, like flexible automated planning, including heuristics and optimizer. Embedded PPTS helps you to trigger detailed scheduling activities automatically. For example, it automatically schedules the order operations when an order is created. You can also start detailed scheduling activities in the Production Planning run, on the Detailed Scheduling Planning Board, or in the Resource Planning Table specifically for selected options or orders. Here, the system automatically carries out detailed scheduling activities for affected dependent objects, if necessary. If you need heuristics, but wait a second, what do we really mean by heuristics? We mean that heuristics are a planning function that executes planning for selected objects. In this way, the focus of planning can be products, orders, operations, resources, or line networks, using a particular algorithm. In the standard version of PPDS for SAP S for HANA, a range of heuristics are available for various tasks in production planning and detailed scheduling. If you need to optimize your production plans, then the system allows you to optimize the production date and the resource allocation for operations. This is defined in the optimization profile. And the most common optimizations in planning are the following. make span, setup time, setup cost, delay cost, and mode cost. If you want to do exception-based planning, then the system can automatically calculate and raise exceptions with considering the whole material flow. A production planner can then use, for example, an alert monitor to monitor to further investigate the exception or to take immediately action. If you need comprehensive simulation planning, then this is done via planning profiles, with which many what-if scenarios can be simulated. Also, a plan monitor helps the planner to evaluate the key figures for a plan in relation to specific objects, versions and periods, and assigns scores to the results. If you need pegging, especially dynamic, or fixed, or persistent pegging, and as well multi-level for the whole material flow, then this can also be done with embedded PPTS. What do we mean by dynamic pegging? We mean the requirement, with which the system automatically links requirements for a location product with suitable stock or a seat for the location product. With fixed packing, we mean the required of assigning stock or a seat element to a requirement in a fixed way. Material flow requirement is best described if you want to assign suitable existing product receipts and product stocks, which can cover the requirement to a product requirement, meaning if you want to organize the material flow through all bill of material levels, from the procurement of components and raw materials to delivery of a sales order, for example. If you have requirements to support product content, meaning you have industry-specific content requirements, then Embedded PPDS supports you with example scenarios for shelf life and or tank planning. Or if you need model mix planning and sequencing, then this also is supported with tech-based flow manufacturing for configurable products with a high volume of orders. Lastly, if you need a system for heavy extensibility and or adjustment planning logic meaning customization or the use or programming of bodies, then embedded PBDS is also your choice. Before ending this micro learning, let's recap what we have covered today. key concept and capabilities of the three apps for capacity planning and scheduling and CPS, as well as, we answered the question, when you need embedded PPTS for your requirements.
