Implementing the Retrieve Logic in SAP Sales and Service Cloud

In part 14, we want to explore how we can retrieve the description of our seminars via some coding, and then set this video as a description. Follow object value selector. What does this mean? It means that we created an extension field seminar. But in the seminar we can currently only enter it. So selected. Yes, that's important because in order to link the quote line item that we have with one of our seminars, we need to ID undesired. But actually for the user we would like to display just a description because the users usually don't care so much about IDs. In order to do so, we need to write a small logic that uses this idea of a seminar order to retrieve the description of a seminar, and then only displays a description of the seminar, but actually stores the ID. And that's what we're going to see here. Now. So we write a small script where we retrieve the name of the seminar, which stores this in another extension field on our code line item, and then we will use it as a description. So you will see how to create the extension field. Again. You will see how to make some logic to retrieve information from a different object, and also then how to bind it on the UI. So it's nicely displayed. Okay. So then let's go over to the Cloud Application Studio and start with creating our extension field where we can store the description. Okay. So let's add a description for our seminar ID now here for our frontend. So we want to have media name where we store the name of the seminar author. No line item for this. I added a library here so they have medium text available here in the extension field. That's a field which we will only add as a field here we don't need a label because we will never put this really to the UI. We will only display the value. So now we need to somewhat set the text. We need to set it based on the seminar. We want to use the seminar ID to query our seminar management and gets a name for it. Unfortunately, we cannot make an association on the line item of a set. Quote. Normally I would just add an association based on the ID and could get all the fields always in our case, unfortunately, we need to persist here, the names so that we can bind it a description, but for that I will now create script files here. So I will create a script that is actually every time I change a line item fetching the name. So for that I will need to after modify event never need on the line item. So I need to go here now on the line item, choose the after modify because then it is done with every modification and added here. So then we have a new script file here. I need to activate now here because I added a new field and I want to use this field in my script. So let me activate here. Okay. So now we can go to the coding. So what I want to do here now I want to get basically the name for that. It will first get to similar. In instance I make a new variable seminar instance is equal to. And now I need to takes a below basically here. So code completion. And then there gets a similar management. That's my B over here. And I make a dot and they have a function I have create create marks retrieve. And we want to retrieve it. And then if you open this we see we need to hand over seminar ID we have set here. So we had over basically this dot seminar ID. So that's the ID and our line item. And then if everything works fine here is really a seminar stored that was retrieve was this idea that we need to check. So let me get this here. And then I said is set. I should maybe make an if, if the seminar instance is set, then we would like to take the name from ID and store it in our name field. So, in this case this. And then we take the seminar name from our line item here. Then we just store the name of the seminar instance. So if it make a dot here we see all the fields of our seminar management here. And we want to take all of the name, but you see all the number of participants. So we could really reach everything here and we will take over the name. So that's the coding that we do. Basically gets even know name. By ID so we retrieve the right seminar with the ID then we check if it's set and if yes we assign the seminar name. And then we should have in our customer quote the seminar name stored in here. And then we can use it on the user interface later to display nicely instead of displaying the ID. So let me save and activate this okay. Now what if we test the entire thing and putting a breakpoint here, let me check if I have put the user here. The Navy for business user Jenny, and then start our debugger here and let's have a quick run through if we get the name here. Okay, let's open our seminar and let's change our product. So a change of seminar one to seminar three. And now because that's some modifications, the debugger should open up. Here we are. And now we can see already has the seminar instance here. It's set. And we see all the attributes of our seminar. The number of participants. So you see we have this entire instance here. And we would like to get now from ID the names of programing lessons. So let's step one more. And you see now here is in our name programing lessons. This it is still empty. Now we move one onwards. And now we have the lessons in here. Great. So let's hit play I mean if you don't see anything on the UI because in the end we have now stored in this field, the name, but we don't display it anywhere. We could display it not as a field here, but that we don't want. We would like to display it instead of this three. And this we can do by changing the binding of our value selector. That's what we going to do next. Now for this we open as always our screen here. So it's demand. But now we know a little bit how to navigate here eventually. Whereas quote and the quote the I would like to change to a value selector okay. Here go to products. There we select again our pain here and wait. And then you open the Extensibility Explorer. Here we go to change the configuration how we are to edit our views. We select existing obvious. And here we can now choose a description field. And then this one. Here we go to the item because that's where we edit our fields. And here we find a similar name and can just add a similar name here as the description field. Couldn't we show it in description? Maybe also you would only like use description and apply this. And then we need to. Again. Then we go to our front end and test. This is worked already. Okay. I went to the front and I don't show you. No, it didn't work for me. So I guess that we did not also activation here on the screen. So I will try to just remove this entire change and action, which would take a little bit and then add the entire over us completely new again, because I think then really a change is triggered and then also the activation of the screen happens. Sorry, that's a little bit inconvenient, but let's try that. And I think that should work. Okay. Let's see again. So now we don't have a change, here anymore. So now we add all of these component again here, like we did before the quickly because we also know in front of us okay okay. And now I will select here the description field directly item again similar name okay. And now I will apply this okay. And now of it's safe and activate. And then I hopefully it's working with us on the front end. Okay I need to say for me it also didn't worked the second time. Then then I went again here. And I don't have this on video now. Then I changed basically presentation mode description only and then set the description field. The description field is not displaying here, but it works. I'm very sorry about that. Please try on your side. But maybe try a little bit around. But again, what made it work for me is tentatively condition use only the description field description only select my field. Select say okay save and activate and then go to the front end. And that's what we're going to do. Now. So let's open here know our code. And now we go to the products. Now we don't have a seminar here I will select the seminar. And like mathematic classes you will see here mathematical as is displayed. But the value stored is the ID. So you can do joining and referencing and everything by the ID. It's only what's displayed here that's only the description displayed here. I've seen you seminars here we can save. So now we have a this it looks nicer. We see an attribute here. We don't see an ID anymore here of the seminar. So I think that's much more helpful than seeing the, anything else. So and this is how you can get basically your extension field here. You have a selector on the extension field and you display very nicely a description. So that's how you could try, for example, your custom solution partly into your standards solution. Okay. So thank you very much. I hope it's okay that this part for a little bit, stumbling. But I think it was also important and I hope but just be doing what actually is happening, doing building a solution guide to learn from it and see a little bit how to do some background. So to check things.
