Introducing the Features and Business Processes of the Order Management Module in SAP Commerce Cloud

Hello! In this topic,  we will introduce major features  of the order management services module.   The Order Management Services Module  is built on top of the SAP Commerce Platform.  It allows you to view  and manage customer orders,  review and edit shipping information,  manage returns and refunds,  and search for and view  your inventory information.   Before delving into the details of the order management services module,  we need to clarify the relation between basic OM related extensions and OMS.  Basic OM related extensions will be used  as a centralized hub  for integrating order processes  from different channels,  it provides open interfaces for integration  with other products or services,  such as ERPs, warehouses,  payment gateways, fraud service providers, etc.   furthermore, it contains an out-of-the-box template for custom implementations.  Currently, our official training C4H341  will cover more details  about basic OM related extensions.  The order management services module (OMS)  will be used in the backend  for inventory management and order fulfilment,  which is a good complement  to the Basic OM related extensions.   The current OMS implementation  is extensible and has Seamless integration  with SAP Commerce Cloud.   These are the major features  of the order management service module. Real-time inventory management  across all stock locations  using either Backoffice or OCC,  therefore, you can know  how many items you have available  to promise (ATP).  Automated order workflow  to support order fulfillment.  Order splitting, Sourcing, and Allocation support  Ability to pick, pack, label,  and confirm shipments  through the Backoffice Order Fulfillment Cockpit  Ability to create and manage returns and refunds  Ability to view fraud reports,  payment details, and customer information.  Integration with Customer Support.  Integration with the SAP Commerce Cloud,  Composable Storefront.   Next, I will cover several of these features.   When an order is received  from the SAP Commerce Storefront,  SAP Commerce Order Management  will be responsible for processing  and completing the order,  the major steps include:  sourcing will be executed.  Sourcing is the action of  determining which physical location  (or locations) will supply all items for an order. Then, allocation will group order items  into consignments. That is, determining which items of an order will be shipped  from a single location  in a single box or package. For each consignment,  four steps in the order workflow will take place. A pick list is printed,  which lists the item(s)  that need to be collected  from the store or warehouse shelf.	 A pack slip is printed, which indicates  all the items that need to be packed  in a single shipping box or package.  A label is printed, which displays the customer's shipping address.  Details vary depending on the shipping carrier. The order is shipped, and confirmation of the shipment  is logged in Order Management. We also need to determine the tax amount  of an order and to log the information,  so that a tax invoice can be created.   Order Management communicates  with a third-party tax invoicing service  to complete the tax invoicing.  After the taxes are posted, as a final step the payment is charged to the customer.  Order Management communicates  with a third-party payment service provider  to complete the payment capture.  As one important step of order fulfillment process,  sourcing is implemented by SourcingService,  which is part of the warehousing extension,  SourcingService will evaluate  how orders should be fulfilled  and to influence how consignments  will be allocated,  it will also provide strategies for splitting orders  into consignments depending on factors  like stock availability and shipping distance.  Later, I will get into more details of sourcing with an example.   As another important step  of order fulfillment process,  AllocationService has two major functions:  one is consignments for a given order  based on the sourcing results  returned by SourcingService. The other is to take items  that were to be sourced  from one particular warehouse  and reassign them to another warehouse;  this is called reallocation.  AllocationService supports  both manual and auto reallocation.  Next, I will demonstrate how consignments  can be created automatically  after an order is placed and sourced.   In the Composable storefront, add one product  Cyber-shot N1 in the shopping cart  add another product Gigashot K40H  in the shopping cart too.  Please note, these two products  are from different warehouses.  Now, let’s checkout and place this order.  Open backoffice, navigate to order, orders,   You will find an order  has been successfully created. Then navigate to consignment,   two consignments have been created  and sourced to two different warehouses.  Warehouse employees can leverage the Backoffice Order Fulfilment Cockpit,  to help them fulfill their sub orders, i.e., consignments.  A Pick Slip is a printout of products  to fulfill an order and contains  their shelf location  and other information.  A Pack Slip provides information  about a shipment,  such as the constituent items,  the billing and shipping addresses,  order ID, and total cost of the merchandise. A Shipping Label is printed  which includes the customer's delivery address  and any additional information  required by the delivery service.  Warehouse employees can confirm the Shipment of each consignment.   The final two steps  of the order fulfillment process  are taxation and payment capture.  Taxation will determine the tax amount  of an order and log the information  so that a tax invoice can be created.   Order Management Services communicate  with a third-party tax invoicing service  to complete the tax invoicing.	  After the order is packed and ready to be shipped,  the payment is charged to the customer.   Order Management Services communicate  with a third-party payment service provider  to complete the payment capture. These are four predefined business processes OOTB  in the order management services module  to help finish order fulfillment.  The order process is started  after a cart goes through checkout  and becomes an actual order.  This is the major process  in the order management services module. The consignment process is started  during the Sourcing & Allocation phase  of the order process. The return process is started  after a return gets created.  A return can be created  only if at least one consignment  from an order has been confirmed  as shipped.  The send return label email process  is started after a return has been approved.
