Introducing Web IDE in SAP SuccessFactors Incentive Management

Hi, my name is Lily! In this video, I’ll introduce you to Web IDE. Web IDE is a web-based tool that enables you to create flowgraphs to transform source data into compatible data in the SAP Commissions HANA database. It’s the Integration Consultant’s job to write the flowgraph logic in the Web IDE development environment. The Smart Data Integration, or SDI, executes this logic. The consultant plans out how much time it will take to write the code. It’s important to understand the data structures. For example, in the source database the participant name is in one table, and the salary is in another table. However, this information is in one table in the target database. In this scenario, flowgraph can be used to write the logic to merge the data from the source tables and insert it in the target table. As a consultant, you need to become familiar with the customer’s information to discover the structure of the source and target tables. You need to see what attributes should be transferred into the SAP Commissions HANA database schema. Then, you can write the logic to merge or split the data, change the format, or change the column names. Once the design is final, the logic can be written in Web IDE and deployed into SDI to transform or move data to the  SAP Commissions database. Let’s look at Web IDE. The Web IDE URL and Web IDE credentials will be provided to you in the provisioning email. Web IDE has a plugin called Database Explorer which allows you to view and query information from catalog objects of the HANA database.  The Database Explorer plugin allows you to login to the HANA database tenant and explore the catalog objects. In the current system, I have access to multiple tenant databases. Each node represents a customer’s tenant database. You can expand each node to see what’s in the catalog. I’ll open Tables so that I can see the schemas of that table. In a typical database, there are multiple schemas. SAP Commissions database has two default schemas:  TCMP and EXT. TCMP is used for Commissions storage. EXT is used by developers and third-party partners for development or storage of their custom data. You can also create your own schemas. Let’s look at a list of tables in the TCMP schema. With Tables selected in the Catalog, I’ll select All Schemas. I’ll type TCMP in the search bar and select the TCMP schema. This will show the Commissions solution tables in this schema. I can look for a staging table just by typing CS_ in Search. Now, we can see a list of the Commissions solution staging tables. I’ll select CS_Participant to view the stage table in the TCMP schema. The structure of the table is on the right side. For example, it shows the First and Last Name of the participant, salary, and hire date. All of these attributes are shown in the User Interface or UI. This is the database explorer view. This is the tenant. This is the schema.  This is the tenant database.  This is shown in the form of a hierarchy to make it easier for us to navigate. You can Open Data link in the upper right-hand to view the data in the table. In this example, there’s no additional data. Now we’ll look at Web IDE.   Web IDE is used to create a flowgraph that transforms the customer's data to the format needed in the EXT schema table. This is the web development environment, which allows you to write the logic in a low code way, to move the data. Let’s look at an example of the graphical tool. The node on the left is the Data Source. The one on the right is the data target. This is a graphical way of writing the logic of the data moving from source to target. The data source is the customer’s database.  And, the data target is the EXT schema. I’ll double-click the configure icon in the data target node. In this example, the different columns in the source database have a similar structure to the target. In this case, you just have to move the data. Since it is a direct line, just map column to column. If I delete the line, you’ll see there are no mapping columns. When you draw a line from the source node to the target, the system automatically looks for the name on the source by the column name, participant,  batchname, etc. It automatically looks for a similar name on the target node. Here’s how you join multiple source tables. From source node, the data goes to the join node. I can create two source nodes. This could represent the First Name data from one source and the hiring data data from another souce moving to the target. Using this graphical tool, you can complete a case statement, table comparisons, or lookup for data etc. The whole idea is to map the source data with the target data. Once you’re satisfied with the design, you’re ready to deploy the solution. This kind of logic is called a flowgraph. In this video, I introduced you to Web IDE. Thanks for watching!
