Introduction to Smart Data Integration on SAP SuccessFactors Incentive Management

Hi, my name is Lily. In this video, I’ll discuss Smart Data Integration or SDI on SAP Commissions, SDI architecture, and the customer requirements for data integration that SDI provides. So, what is Smart Data Integration? SAP Smart Data Integration, or SDI, is an engine that runs on the SAP HANA platform and is used for data integration. Using SDI, you can push data from external on-premise sources to the SAP HANA database. SDI also provides the features to extract data from the SAP HANA database. SDI is packaged as part of SAP Commissions and is used to integrate the on-premise data sources with SAP Commissions on the SAP HANA database. Let me give you some context. Typically SaaS vendors only allow the user to work through the User Interface or an API layer. Similarly SAP Commissions allows you to transfer the data using Commissions APIs. In the cloud, it is disadvantageous to move large amounts of data using APIs. Most SaaS applications don’t open direct connection to their databases to insert or retrieve data. SAP Commissions provides the tools like Smart Data Integration to insert or retrieve data from the SAP HANA database directly. This gives you an edge when data volumes are high. Using SDI, you are not going through the application layer. You are directly connecting to the database. In the SAP Commissions landscape, Smart Data Integration is a data integration solution based on the SAP HANA database and supports data federation, or aggregation, and batch processing data integration. SDI configuration consists of installing a Data Provisioning Agent and setting up adapters or connectors on the customer premises which will establish a link between the SAP Commissions HANA database and the customer's source data. SDI comes with many connectors. These can connect with the many data sources, including relational database systems or RDBMS, Big Data, flat files, and social media. SDI provides an easy to use graphical interface to transform, filter, join, and segregate data. Let’s look at the two main components of Smart Data Integration. The SAP HANA Server (SDI Data Provisioning Server) hosted in the SAP/Callidus Datacenter The Data Provisioning Agent, or DP Agent hosted in the customer datacenter. The DP agent is installed in the customer’s data center and is set up to connect with SDI and the SAP HANA database server. The DP Agent connects to the data source systems and passes information between the source systems and the SAP HANA server using built-in adapters that are packaged with the DP Agent. Data is transmitted over HTTPS to and from the HANA Server. Every SAP Commissions solution is provisioned with a separate SAP HANA tenant database. Web IDE facilitates access to the SAP HANA database and SDI components. A development space is provisioned in Web IDE XSA (Extended Application Service) to enable application developers to manage content integration development. Web IDE has a plugin called DB Explorer that allows users to connect to the tenant database and access the schemas. In this video, I introduced you to Smart Data Integration on SAP Commissions. Thanks for watching!
