Managing Custom Roll Relationships in SAP SuccessFactors Incentive Management

Hello and welcome. In this video, we'll talk about Custom Roll Relationships in SAP SuccessFactors Incentive Management. Roll relationships are associations between positions. Specifically, they define relationships between two positions, letting you roll credits, measurements, and incentives from one position, the source; to a second position, the receiver; in a compensation plan. There are two types of roll relationships: Reporting and Custom. Reporting relationships reflect the manager-employee relationship. As you create positions, populating the manager field creates a roll relationship between the current position and the manager's position. If this is done consistently for all positions, the entire reporting structure for the sales organization is created. This can be used for a number of purposes when calculating compensation. Custom relationships, on the other hand, are used to roll credits between positions that don't reflect the reporting hierarchy. In other words, if the payee receiving the original credits isn't the manager of the original payee, custom roll relationships are configured in the Relationships workspace. Notice the rollrelationship includes a field called Roll Type.  Roll types are an important part of custom role relationships because they create a framework that allows you to treat multiple relationships the same way. You can set up as many role types as you need. Let's look at an example. Our compensation plan includes the payment of a bonus to our pre-sales engineers. Terry Callahan is a product sales rep for the Eastern US. He partners with Ellen Brown, a pre-sales engineer for the same region. Before we can calculate Ellen's bonus, we need to roll any credits that Terry earns over to Ellen as well. To do this, we need to first set up a roll type. Then we'll create the relationship between the two positions. When we create the credit rule, we select the roll type so the system knows how to roll the credits. Starting from the Relationships Workspace, I'll select Create, New Roll Type. I'll call it SE Role, and select Save. Now, in the Relationships Workspace, I'll select Create, Add New Relationships. I'll leave the start and end dates for the relationship at the default. Credits need to roll from the Sales Rep East position to the Pre-Sales Engineer East position. This makes the pre-sales engineer the receiver, and the sales rep is the source. I'll enter the source and receiver positions. Notice that you can select multiple source positions. In this scenario, this might be the case if, for example, Ellen supports a team of multiple sales reps. I'll click OK to create the relationship. Now I can use the relationship in an indirect credit rule. Keep in mind that we designate how credits roll not in the source positions plan, but in the receiver's plan. In this scenario, this means that the credit rule will be in the plan for the pre-sales engineers. I already have a credit rule set up in the plan, so I'll edit the rule and go to the Credits tab. Here, I'll select Rolling Through and select the roll type that I created earlier, SE Roll. This will identify Terry as the source  and roll his credits to Ellen. In this video, we covered what you need to know about custom roll relationships. We started with a definition and, using a scenario, showed how to create a roll type and a role relationship, and how to use the roll type in an indirect credit rule.  Thanks for watching!
