Managing the Services Properties in SAP Commerce Cloud Portal

Hello, my name is Clemens Thielmann. Today, I want to show you how to manage the service properties in your SAP Commerce Cloud Portal subscription. A service is an underlying set of functionalities that supports your application. For example, the storefront service is a service dedicated to serve the storefront web pages. Let’s open a production environment and have a look. After you provision an environment to a Cloud Portal, a list of predefined services is added to the "Services" panel, visible here. To see the details of all the available services, choose "View All". On this page, you can find information related to a specific service. First, modification details. Second, a "Replicas" value that reflects instances available for a given service. A replica is an instance of the service that runs in the background. When a service is running, at least one replica is also ready in the background. If a service is stopped, then no replicas are available. And finally, a "Status". There are three possible statuses. No status is represented by two dashes; it means that this service isn’t deployed. Running means the service is deployed and running. Stopped means the service is deployed but isn’t up and running. It might also be possible that the service was stopped by an error. Each service has its own service details page that displays a summary of the service. For example, let’s open the Storefront service. Here, you can check information about replicas and their logs. You can also decide to start, stop, or restart the service. You can even configure the properties of the service. Now, I will show you how to change a runtime property for my Storefront service. Let’s switch tabs and move to my Storefront site. In this demo, I will change a number of displayed items on a search result page. As you can see, when I search for the word "firm", I get 138 results on more than 5 result pages. Each page displays 20 items by default. I can change that setting by applying a defined service property called the search page size property, and I can do this without bringing the system down. Back in the Cloud Portal, I select the "Properties" tab. In the editor box, I paste the following value. In this case, I will see 60 products per page. Now, I save my changes. A pop-up window is displayed asking me to confirm the operation. I click "Apply Configurations". Once I have applied the new configuration, all the replicas will be restarted one by one, avoiding any downtime. As you can see, a success pop-up message indicates that the configuration is now being applied. Remember that this operation might take a few minutes before it will be applied to all the replicas. It always depends on the complexity of my application and the applied changes. Once finished, I can go back to my Storefront to check the result. I search for "firm" again. The search result still displays 138 items, but this time only on 3 search result pages. When I scroll down, I notice that the list of products has been extended, which confirms that applied property is now in place. I hope you enjoyed the video.
