Measuring Time and Sum Results Functions in SAP SuccessFactors Incentive Management

Hello and welcome!  My name is Varsha.  In this video,  I’ll discuss the prebuilt Functions available in SAP Commissions. There are several prebuilt functions available in the system.  These functions can be used across any of the rule elements that are present in the system. One or more functions can be used together to produce the desired result. Here are a few functions you’ll see in SAP Commissions. Measure time or period between dates, Sum prior results or sum results to date, Get results from rate tables, Date functions, and Set unit type.  I’ll briefly describe what the Measure Time and Sum results functions do.  I’ll provide common use case examples for how you can use them across multiple businesses.  Let’s begin with this example.  Jim and Lisa have recently joined as Sales Reps in Global Corp.  Lisa joined in the month of April  and Jim joined a couple of months later in July.  They’ll receive an annual bonus in the month of December,  which will be prorated for the year.  However, to be eligible for the bonus,  a Sales Rep must be employed for at least six months.  The Measure Time Function or Periods Between Dates calculates the number of periods between two dates.  You can choose system driven dates  or dates that are loaded to data items such as Positions and Participants.  As the example shows Start Date in Current Position.  The Measure Time function compares the period run when an individual started in a role.  The Start Date is typically held in a generic date field.  The resulting time can be used in other functions to apply a proration figure or determine if a Sales Rep is eligible for a bonus.  In this example, Lisa and Jim’s time in role can be calculated and determined if they are eligible for a bonus for the year.  Other examples of measuring time and period are,  Time in location,  Time in leave of absence,  and Determining clawback eligibility period.  Basically, these functions are the same as they measure time between two dates.  Here’s an example to understand Time in location.  George is a Sales Rep who lives in Germany.  He also lives part time in Canada.  He is eligible for commission for the transactions in both regions.  To do this Calculation, we must determine the time he spends in Germany and then in Canada.  For the time in leave of absence,  you can use either Measure Time Between Dates or Measure Period Between Dates.  This function helps to prorate a bonus, if the payee took a leave of absence during the fiscal year.  To determine claw back eligibility,  if a Transaction is canceled or charged back within 90 days of purchase,  a claw back is created;  otherwise the Sales Rep keeps the commission.  In such a scenario, you can use the Measure Time to Date function.  Now, I’ll go over the aggregating Functions.  Here are the functions to sum up or aggregate.  Sum Measurements To Date,  Sum Incentives To Date,  Sum Prior Measurements,  and Sum Prior Incentives.  These functions sum the total values of results for a specified number of results.  This can be configured by several periods or by all the periods in a specific period type,  such as a year.  In the first example that we discussed, the transaction amount made by Lisa can be calculated using Year-To-Date, also called YTD Business.  This function is typically used to calculate the amount of business a Sales Rep has made in the Calculation year.  If the monthly business is stored in a measurement, then the Sum Measurements to date function can be used with a Period Type of Year.  It is also possible to add the results of more than one aggregating Functions, if multiple Results collect the data.  Here are a few more examples,  Quarter to date or QTD and year to date or YTD, refers to aggregating the values for a quarter or a year.  For example, in a few countries like Germany, sales targets are fixed for a year,  whereas in other countries like the US, targets are fixed for the quarter.  YTD or QTD Target Collection can be used to aggregate the target attained by the Sales Rep and determine how close they are to the set target.  In this video, we’ve discussed the Measure Time and Sum Results functions using few common examples.  Thanks for watching.
