The Permit to Work solution helps to manage the risks inherent to hazardous tasks and ensure that the necessary precautions are put in place to improve the safety of personnel, plant, and the environment.</div></div></div></div></div>

Navigating from Maintenance Order Processing to Permit to Work in SAP S/4HANA Asset Management

Welcome to the micro-learning series on SAP S/4HANA Asset Management. In this video, I will show you how the cross-application navigation from a maintenance order to Permit to Work gets enabled in SAP S/4HANA. The Permit to Work solution provides a systematic approach in controlling and executing the operational and maintenance activity safely and efficiently in a work site. With the Permit to Work solution, you can easily create and manage work permits during maintenance order processing on the SAP Fiori Launchpad. To enable the navigation from a maintenance order to Fiori applications "Create Work Permit" and "Manage Work Permits", the Permit to Work solution needs to be implemented and enabled for the planning plan of a maintenance order. Also, the Business Catalogue "WCM- Permit to Work" must be assigned to your business roles. The Permit to Work solution for the relevant planning plants can be activated in the customizing activity for plant maintenance and customer service under work clearance management. Permit to work. Maintain Permit to work profile for planning plant. In this IMG activity, you define the application profile for a planning plant. Select the planning plant for which you need to maintain the settings. Select the partner determination procedure. This field decides the partners and partner functions allowed for your planning plant. The partner determination procedure is not a mandatory field. You can define a planning plant profile without assigning a partner determination procedure. In the settings for work permit assignments and relationships, specify the maximum number of maintenance orders that can be assigned to a work permit, the maximum number of work permits that can be assigned per order using, and select the check boxes: "Allow operation assignment to work permit" to enable the assignment of order operations in the work permit application. "Order Assignment Required in Work Permit" to make the order assignment mandatory for processing the work permit. Permit without an order is not allowed to be submitted if this function is enabled. "Maintain Issue History" to track issue history of the work permit and "Block Revoke when Work Permit is Approved". If you want to disable the user from revoking the submission of work permit, if an approval is issued. In the settings for Safety Certificate Assignments and Relationships, select from the options in work permit assignment restrictions to restrict the work permit assignment in safety certificate based on the work permit processing status. And select two check boxes: "Block Revoke" when safety certificate is approved to disable the user from revoking the submission of safety certificate, if an approval is issued. "Block Closure/ Cancellation/Deletion of Safety Certificate" to disable the user from closing, canceling or deleting the safety certificate, which is associated with open work permits. After the Permit to Work solution has been enabled for the Planning Plant, the association with Permit to Work field is displayed in the general section of the Work Order and indicates whether the order is or has been associated with any work permits. If the field is empty, the maintenance order is not associated with any work permits. Once an order has been saved on the database, you can choose additional functions, manage work permits, to navigate from the order to "Manage Work Permits" applications. The application opens in a new window and allow you to create a new permit with reference to the maintenance order. The planning plant and the order number are copied from the maintenance order to the work permit creation dialog. From the work permit types, maintained for the specific planning plant, select the type which supports your work activity. Choose Continue. The Work Permit object page loads with the data copied from the maintenance order. The order gets linked to the work permit on the assigned orders tabs, and the Quick Link offers a direct navigation to the order. Based on the data maintained for the order, the fields in the General Data, Reference Objects, Responsibility, and Location Data Reference Objects are copied over to the work permit. The validity details, items configured for the Nature of Work categories, and the approval types on the approval tab are filled based on how the values are maintained in the configuration for the work permit type. If any field is missing data from the reference record or if you want to modify any existing values, use the value help and select your entries. After the work permit is created and linked to the maintenance order, the "Association with Permit to Work" field in the reference maintenance order is updated with the value relevant for work permit. If you select "Additional Functions", "Manage Work Permits", you can display a prefiltered list of the work permits that associated with this order. It is also possible to remove the work permit assignment of the maintenance order. The field value "Not relevant for Work Permit" indicates that the maintenance order was previously associated with the work permit, but the assignment was deleted. The cross-application navigation from maintenance order to permit to work is available as of S/4HANA 2023 FPS2. The functionality can be down ported to S/4HANA on -premise 2023 FPS0 or FPS1 by using the following SAP Notes. Thank you for watching.
