Navigating SAP Fiori for SAP S/4HANA as a Color Blind User - Accessibility

Hello and welcome to this learning unit on Navigating SAP Fiori for SAP S/4HANA as a color blind user, that is someone with Color Vision Defiency. My name is Jocelyn Dart, I am a User Experience Strategist and part of the SAP S/4HANA Customer Care and Regional Implementation Group In this learning unit, we'll talk about the needs of color blind users. We'll talk about how color is used in SAP Fiori. Useful accessibility features for color blind users. Also how you can find semantic information that's usually distinguish by color in the system as a color blind user and particularly some analytical features you can use for charts that distinguish data values by color. So this is Mike. Mike works in the accounting department where he uses a lot of analytics. Mike identifies as color blind. His particular color blindness is called red-green color vision deficiency, which means he has trouble distinguishing reds from greens. To use the system more easily he needs good color contrast and information he can use to supplement color. You might also notice that this is an invisible condition. So he doesn't need to tell anybody else about it.  The good news is SAP Fiori never has to use color alone to distinguish between values. That said, SAP Fiori does use color in a number of ways. For example, SAP Fiori uses color to indicate semantic meaning for example, with key performance indicator tiles (KPI tiles). Color can also be used to reinforce status and priority It can also be used to distinguish between different values in charts, and it can be used to highlight recommended actions such as approve and reject. When you have difficulty seeing colors you can use icons because these typically differ by shape and text, not just color. You can use tooltips that will show you the semantic meaning, for instance on KPI tiles. You can take advantage of legends that highlight the matching data values in a chart and other chart features such as change chart type, view data in table format and export to spreadsheet, where of course you can adjust whatever colors you like. There are also grouping options for notifications and finally you may be able to personalize your theme, a particular palette may work better for you. Let's have a look at this in the system. In this demonstration I am using a user based on the Accounts Receivable manager role Managers tend to have a lot of these analytical apps where color can be an issue for some people. So the first you notice if I've  got a number of KPI tiles, these tiles with the figures on them, on my home page. And some of these tiles can  have semantic meaning. Now  if you don't have color vision deficiency then you would be able to see that the Overdue Receivables Today tile is 100% and it's red, meaning it's exceeded a threshold. This is one of the ways that semantic information is is displayed. If you actually rest your cursor on the tile you'll see a tooltip that shows you Overdue Receivables Today Numeric Micro Chart 100 - that's the value - and Error. So Error tells me that it's this red exceeded threshold value. There are usually 4 values that are used by default:  Error - I've exceeded a threshold; Warning - which is a yellow color  - I'm approaching a threshold; Good - which is green - I'm within  thresholds; and Neutral - which means there's no particular semantic information. So you'll see if I go  to a different tile here and do the same trick that  2K Day Sales Outstanding is neutral. Now this tooltip trick works even for more complex charts.  So you'll see if I move to Overdue Receivables by Risk Class which has 2 values  on it it's a Comparison Micro Chart as you can  see in the tooltip and it's actually telling me that  both of these lines are Neutral. Let's have a look at this Overdue Receivables app and see what else you can see of a different type of analytical chart. Ok and here I am in a very common chart type which is a Smart Business report. Now let me swap to a filter which will give me a little bit more data to show you what's going on. So I'll choose the filter By Customer (Top 10  Receivables, Chart) and here what I find is I've got a  chart which is full of blue and orange entries. Now you'll notice here there's something special about this legend if I just rest my cursor on the legend value it  highlights everything in the chart that matches. So  that's quite useful if I can't distinguish  between the colors I can see that little focus highlight to see which values  that does relate to. You'll see the same thing happens to  the other values when  I go to the Amount Last Due Period. Now another thing that you can do and this again is quite common, you  can actually change the chart type to something that's a little easier to see the distinction between different values. So up here I've got the change chart type - it always looks like the current chart type - and I'm going to change from a stacked bar chart with 2 x-axes  to a combined stacked line chart with 2 y-axes. ok, and now I've got a nice big column for the Overdue Amount and a line that's easy to see for the Amount  Last Due Period. Another thing that you can do, if you prefer, is you can swap from chart to table mode. So if you prefer to see the raw numbers you can do that. You can also download that table information as a spreadsheet Of course once you have that information in a spreadsheet you can then use your regular charting capabilities in Excel  if you wish. Let'slook at another type of chart. So I'm going to back to my home page here and I'm going to go across from my Overview, my regular analytics, to some advanced analytics that I use less frequently. See there's a number a different analytics available here and again some of them have semantic meaning. The one I'm looking for here is called Doubtful Accounts Valuation and this will actually take me to a Fiori app based on the Analytical List Page floorpan. Here I can see that I've got a chart and a table, and if you look here the legend trick works once again. Now you'll see that it's a little bit  hard to see that Allowance just because of the data that's in the chart, so once again I can do a few things. Here  I can swap from a table and chart view to a chart only view. I can also still not see much data so I can change the  chart type once again - and that's why I couldn't  see much data! That's much clearer! And I can even see once again that the legend trick works. I can also do the full screen option, so I see the chart more completely. And here once again that little trick with the legend works. Notice that's there's also a little mini tile up here - a mini KPI tile - and when I rest my cursor on it, it also will give me the status. So this is telling me it's a green status that's Good status. Just to prove this is dynamic information if I have a look at what was happening last year just by changing the key date you can see that as at  last year's key date that tile has now changed value and that's actually red and if I put my cursor on it, it now says the status is High Risk so hear a specific name has been given to the semantic meaning instead of the default name which is Error. Once again you can also swap to a table only mode if you wish and you can do that export to spreadsheet if you wish. Just one other thing that you often see in Analytical List Pages is a visual filter where you have a chart based view for the filters themselves. These are normally just in blue so there's not that much to distinguish between values. Let's have a look at one more type of floorpan. So I'm going to go across to the App Finder where I can find all my apps and I'm going to search for an Overview Page app. So I'm going to have a look at the  Accounts Receivable Overview app. Once again I'll just press the Go button to get us some data. You can see that with this type of analytic I have a number of analytical cards. Now here the legend trick does not work for me and I can't change the chart type - it's more like the KPI tiles - but what I can do is rest my cursor so the tooltip trick works. So here it tells me that this is an Actual Amount and over here I can see there's a difference between Future and Overdue - these are 2 different values - so which one is this? If I can't see the colour I can still rest my cursor on it and it shows me it's the Overdue. Last thing I want to show you was some status information. So if you go up here to Notifications, you will notice that Notifications have different priorities, which is indicated by a status icon, As per usual the red cross indicating High and the yellow triangle indicates a medium priority. I can also group Notifications by priority which will put the high notifications before the mediums. I can also group by Type, because usually the same type of notification has the same priority. So what have you learned? You have learned you can use tooltips on KPI tiles and analytical cards to find the semantic meaning of values. You can use legends in analytical apps and charts to highlight matching data values. You can use chart features - such as change chart type, view data in table format, and export to spreadsheet - to help you navigate the information. You can group notifications by priority.
