Navigating SAP Fiori for SAP S/4HANA as a Low Vision User - Accessibility

Welcome to this learning unit on navigating SAP S/4HANA as a person with low or limited vision My name is Simon Kemp and I am a principal consultant at SAP Australia focusing on User Experience As part of my role I work with many of our customers to advise on and implement accessibility In this learning unit you will gain some insights into the concerns of users with low or limited vision Firstly I will introduce you to our person with low vision Ulla in fact Ulla will introduce herself Next I will describe some of the accessibility features available that Ulla will find useful After that we will jump into a demo where I will showcase these features and give you a feeling for how to navigate and personalise the SAP S/4HANA system to improve accessibility, and finally we will wrap up with some key learnings  Now I'd like to introduce you to Ulla and let her tell you her story  Hi my name is Ulla and I am in my early fifties My vision is not what it was ten years ago Simply because of ageing my eyesight is gradually getting lower so I am very glad that SAP Fiori has personalisation options to cater for that I zoom into 150% and use the different theme options depending on where I am working how tired my eyes are and what time of day it is I very often switch from white to dark mode or even use high colour contrast For applications with forms I use the keyboard although I generally prefer to use the mouse when navigating web pages for example     Some of the features that make the system more accessible are listed here Font 72 is a special font that SAP created which is optimised for screen use It is designed to increase legibility, readability and of course accessibility too You don't need to do anything to turn on font 72, it is already the default High contrast themes such as SAP High Contrast Black and SAP High Contrast White   The increased contrast is useful for anyone using the system But is especially useful for people with low or limited vision Support for zoom up to 200% means that people with low or limited vision can increase the browser zoom and will still be able to use all the functionality the system provides Additionally we provide many keyboard shortcuts that makes navigation more efficient for everyone Finally, not having to enter values into the screen but rather have them defaulted by the system is a great time saver and similarly the ability to save predefine views saves keystrokes and time   For this demo I will use the GL Accountant role as an example because often our customers start with SAP S/4HANA Finance Of course the features I will show are common to many roles and many apps not just Finance  In this demo I will show you some of the features that people with low vision such as Ulla can use to help them navigate and interact with SAP S/4HANA For people with low vision It is especially important to be able to quickly and easily see the current state of the application and determine what screen element currently receives input from the keyboard This is the so called "focus" In our system here you can see the current focus is highlighted by a dashed outline around the "Home" button  The first thing I am going to do is change the default theme to use one of the SAP High Contrast themes in this case High Contrast Black  High contrast themes are not just useful for people with low vision they can be used by everyone especially in very bright or very dark environments that can make the screen more difficult for anyone to read  While I'm here in the settings menu I am also going to check that my default values are correct Default values improve the user experience for everyone By defaulting values you commonly use into fields on the screen So you don't have to enter them manually every time  Being able to zoom the screen so that all the screen elements appear larger is also an important feature used by people with low vision We need to take care as software designers and developers that when our applications are zoomed that all the functionality of the application is still visible and accessible So as the final part of this setup I will zoom the browser up to 200% There we go we are all set In the next part of the demonstration I will perform a very common financial period end task for a GL Accountant creating General Journal Entries and show you how this looks and behaves for Ulla  While some low or limited vision users will exclusively use the keyboard Many will still use the mouse and set the size of the mouse pointer to be larger than the default so that it's easier for them to see Here you can see I've increased the size of my mouse pointer to simulate than situation  Let me select the "Post General Journal Entries" tile and go into that application See how the focus is set to the mandatory field "Journal Entry Date" and how my default values are pre-populated in the screen These features are useful for everyone not just for people with low or limited vision Since this is an Accessibility demonstration and not a finance tutorial I will not go into details of creating Journal entries rather I will use a template that I've already defined in the system to fill in most of the details required To select the template, I will click on the "Select Template" button in the application footer Here I will choose the "Period End Closing Adjustment" template This fills in nearly all the fields I need and lets us focus on the accessibility of the application rather than the finance details  I need to enter a Journal Entry Date and a Posting Date In this case I will choose the last day in the previous month for both  You can see here how the standard calendar control inherits the high contrast theme and clearly shows the current focus and highlights the current day   I also need to enter debit and credit values for each line item In this case I will enter $1,000 debit on line item 1 and a $1,000 credit on line item 2   That should be all that's required  The system is telling me now that there is an error that needs to be fixed SAP Fiori provides a standard messaging framework Using a standard messaging framework like this Ensures that users are presented with messages in a consistent and accessible manner In this case the two messages are both warnings and allow me to proceed So I will go ahead and post this journal entry  To wrap up this demo I will navigate back to the homepage by clicking on the SAP logo in the header Before we finish I'd like to quickly navigate to the "Manage Journal Entries" Fiori application to show you another very common SAP Fiori layout known as the List Report  Here you can see that Journal entry I just created That concludes this demonstration In this learning unit you learned how someone with low or limited vision such as Ulla can make the system easier for her to use by applying some of the great accessibility features available In particular we saw how you can personalise the theme you use for example by choosing SAP High Contrast Black or White That applications generally support zooming up to 200% How font 72 makes text easier to read on digital devices And how to personalise to minimise data entry by using
