In this learning unit you will gain some insights into the concerns of users working with SAP Fiori by using a screen reader Hello everyone, my name is Denis Sariyannis I am a software developer at SAP for many years now and in addition I am serving the role of an accessibility product standard owner in my team Since birth I'm blind And I was very lucky to get introduced to assistive technologies already during my school days Since then I've been using all kinds of different screen readers To work with desktops, Macs and mobile devices At work I am using SAP Fiori apps regularly to organise myself at the company Handling support tickets and planning my vacation time are just a few examples of what I have to do with SAP Fiori apps To be successful in working with SAP Fiori I'm usually using the screen reader JAWS for Windows Firstly I will introduce you to some general concepts which are essential when using Fiori with a screen reader Afterwards we will jump into a demo Where I will demonstrate how to navigate SAP S/4HANA Launchpad Finally we will wrap up with some key learnings To be able to navigate in Fiori as a screen reader user It is very helpful to know the two different types of cursor modes Which are usually provided by screen readers under windows to navigate web pages and apps I'll refer to them by using the terms Virtual Reading Mode and Non-virtual Mode In JAWS for example the Virtual Reading Mode is well known as the Virtual Cursor While switching into the non-virtual mode is simply announced as "use virtual cursor off" Please refer to your screen reader's documentation to learn how to switch between the two cursor modes and to find out how they work in detail Even though we're going to use the Non-Virtual Mode in this demo It is highly recommended to explore the Launchpad also in Virtual Reading Mode There might be non-interactive elements such as blocks of text on Fiori screens which are not reachable in the Non-Virtual Mode   because often our customers start with SAP S/4HANA Finance Of course the features we'll explore are common to many roles and many apps not just Finance Being able to access every feature of the system using only the keyboard is critical for accessibility Therefore I'm going to use keyboard navigation exclusively in this demo The screen reading I am going to use is JAWS for Windows  [Screen Reader Voice] Home Google Chrome, Shell Bar, visited same page link Home We are starting our demo right on the Launchpad Which is the place where you will find all the apps that are assigned to your user By pressing JAWS key + Y,  I am switching into the Non-virtual Mode Which means that I am basically going to move around with the system focus   [Screen Reader Voice] Use virtual PC cursor off Firstly I'd like to explain how apps are organised on the Launchpad Depending on the roles assigned to your user you can find one or more Spaces Which consist of a certain number of Pages I'm going to open the "Post General Journal Entries" app which is located in the General Ledger Space I am pressing the TAB key until I reach the Space/Page navigation [Screen Reader Voice] Home, show all my apps button menu, navigation menu [Screen Reader Voice] Search toggle button, open help button [Screen Reader Voice] notifications button menu. Profile ZBR GL Accountant avatar [Screen Reader Voice] Shell content main region, Space Page navigation region [Screen Reader Voice] Tab. Employee Self-Services split tab selected, has popup, 1 of 2  Now I can navigate between the different Spaces with the left and right arrow keys I am focusing the General Ledger Space and choosing it with ENTER [Screen Reader Voice] General Ledger split tab has popup 2 of 2 [Screen Reader Voice] Enter. Selected. Section is now being shown. As you can hear JAWS announces the General Ledger Space as a split tab That means that there are different pages available in this Space I am pressing ALT + ARROW DOWN to see the Pages that this Space offers [Screen Reader Voice] ALT Down Arrow With the arrow keys I am choosing Journal Entries  [Screen Reader Voice] Context menu, Journal Entries, 2 of 5 I am pressing ENTER [Screen Reader Voice] Enter. Leaving menus. Shell content main region, Space Page navigation region [Screen Reader Voice] Tab. General Ledger split tab selected has popup 2 of 2. [Screen Reader Voice] Section is now being shown. The apps of the Journal Entries page are now shown as tiles on the Launchpad By pressing the TAB key once, I am navigating to the tiles [Screen Reader Voice] Page sections region [Screen Reader Voice] Postings section group. Post General Journal Entries, 1 of 6 On a Page tiles are organised in Sections This helps to group tiles together logically Now, I am using the arrow keys to move through the different tiles Whenever I am entering a new section of tiles JAWS will announce the title of the new section [Screen Reader Voice] Manage Journal Entries, 2 of 6. [Screen Reader Voice] Post Cash Journal Entries, 3 of 6 [Screen Reader Voice] Post Currency Adjustments, 4 of 6 [Screen Reader Voice] Verify General Journal Entries for Requestor, neutral, 5 of 6 [Screen Reader Voice] Verify Journal Entries in General Ledger for Processor Inbox, neutral, 6 of 6 [Screen Reader Voice] Analysis section group, Display G/L Account Balances, 1 of 6 [Screen Reader Voice] Display Line Items in General Ledger, 2 of 6 By using the arrow keys I am focusing the Post General Journal Entries app Which is located in a section called Postings [Screen Reader Voice] Postings, section group [Screen Reader Voice] Manage Journal Entries, 2 of 6 [Screen Reader Voice] Post General Journal Entries, 1 of 6 I am pressing the tab key once to focus the app and then I am opening it by pressing ENTER [Screen Reader Voice] Post General Journal Entires tile. ENTER. [Screen Reader Voice] Shell bar. Post General Journal Entries, show navigation menu button, menu. [Screen Reader Voice] Navigation menu. Header tab panel. [Screen Reader Voice] Form region, Journal Entry Date, date input, collapsed, required. The app has opened and the focus is placed inside the app Navigating a Fiori app is not part of this learning unit But you can check out our other Microlearnings where we show how to work with Fiori apps  I am using the shortcut SHIFT + TAB to navigate backwards and find the Home button  Then I am choosing it with ENTER to get back to the Launchpad [Screen Reader Voice] Navigation region.
