Uploading Data Using Data File Load App in SAP Marketing Cloud

Meet Lisa. She's a regional campaign manager at the Gallo d'Oro coffee Company, and has just attended a specialty coffee expo to advertise the brand's new coffee roast. Lisa wants to send out an email campaign to the contacts she met there. But first, she has to upload them to SAP Marketing Cloud. To do that, she'll use the new data file load application accessible from the launchpad in the Import Data section. Once in the app, Lisa can see an overview of all the data import steps on the top of the screen. As the first step, she'll select the category of the data set she wants to upload, which is contacts. After that, Lisa can easily upload the Excel table she created at the Expo by dragging it to the upload field. Note that all the supported file formats can be seen on screen. You can also see downloadable templates that can help you structure your data set. Let's check how Lisa organized her data form. We can see that her contact attributes are on the header row and their data is populated just below. Notice that two of her contacts belong to the Europe North Marketing area. Lisa isn't sure if she can upload them into the system since her marketing area is Europe South. Marketing area restrictions guarantee that users can only access data they're responsible for. In Lisa's case, as a regional Europe South campaign manager, she doesn't know if she has either reading or writing authorization for Europe North data. We'll come back to that in a second, but for now, Lisa uploads her file. Once that's done, thanks to the new Preview Rows feature, she can preview what her data will look like in the system. Now it's time to verify if the information is correctly categorized. Notice that the new field mapping function has matched the system's contact attributes to the ones in Lisa's data set, saving her a lot of time to make any changes to the automated mapping. Lisa can simply use the drop down menu of the selection field beyond the standard contact fields. We can see that Lisa has added a personalized extension field named Favorite Coffee, which will help her campaign management. Everything is in order, so Lisa moves on to data validation. Here she sees a system error notification citing the email address in row three. Thanks to this precise error feedback, Lisa can go back to her source file and fix the incorrect data. Time to re-upload the data and try validating it again. Here's an error regarding the marketing area that suspected Lisa can outright Europe North data. Since that's out of our scope, Lisa moves on and clicks on review to verify all the settings and then upload a message appears on screen, redirecting her to the import monitor to check the upload status. The file import was a success. However, we can see that the two Europe North contacts got filtered out. Contact data load is now complete and Lisa can send her email campaign to her new contacts. However, her job isn't over just yet. As diligent as Lisa is, she wants to start preparing for a follow up Facebook campaign to guarantee that only those who want to be notified via Facebook will receive the campaign. Lisa will use the permissions she collected at the Coffee Expo's tasting session to load this information. In marketing Cloud. She'll once again use the Data File Load app, only this time Lisa selects permissions in step one. She can then upload her file preview and review it just like she did before. To be 100% sure that the upload was a success, Lisa goes to the contacts app and opens one of her coffee Expo contacts. By clicking on the Marketing Permissions tab, she can verify if the permissions have been successfully uploaded, which is the case. Now everything is set for Lisa's campaign.
