We all use computers every day, to play games, help us organize or communicate with others. But how can we make them do what we want?In this course you will get an introduction to computer programming using the free and open-source visual programming language Snap! And you’ll also get a glimpse on more advanced Computer science concepts, too. Finally, we’ll show you what Artificial Intelligence (AI) is all about and whether it might change the way we use our computers.Let us take you on a guided tour to the construction site of computing and artificial intelligence. We start with the Building Blocks of computer science and will learn about loops, conditionals and variables.Then it’s all about scaling. We’ll look at how we can get from blocks to Building Systems through writing our own functions, working with objects and playing with recursion.Equipped with the power tools of computer science we’ll venture into the realm of AI together. Building AI is all about understanding the underlying principles of neural networks and generative AI.This course if for everyone who is curious about AI and computer science. But the truth is, you can start talking to computers, too. Join us and start building programs in Snap while having fun with your computer. Let us take you on a guided tour to the construction site of computing and artificial intelligence. In the first unit, we'll examine the brick and mortar building blocks of applications. You will learn to use loops to grow a colorful flower garden and sculpt your own blocks to generate geometric art. Learning about variables will let you turn circles into spirals and discovering conditionals is going to make it all interactive. Ready to play a video game? How about building one yourself? We'll introduce you to events, animations and parallelism and off you go the second unit is about applying modes of magic that let us scale simple building blocks into more complex systems you'll explore how chaos self organizes and how rumors spread when functions and lists cooperate and generating random sentences objects and recursion are mighty concepts empowering you to make much out of little and much you will accomplish exponentially growing trees and exploding fireworks equipped with the power tools of computer science will then venture into the realm of ai together in the third and final unit we will write a program that learns to recognize our gestures you can use it to illustrate your presentations then we'll take a look at statistical language models which are at the heart of contemporary llms and how a simplified next token prediction algorithm can synthesize fairy tales music and even pictures would it be possible at all to let a computer simulate parts of the human brain itself that's the exciting question behind so-called neural networks this course is for everyone who is curious about ai and computer science.
