Analyzing Web Requests with Multidimensional Analysis in Dynatrace for SAP Commerce Cloud

Hello! In this video, we will check the Multidimensional analysis feature under Applications & Microservices in Dynatrace  Multidimensional analysis enables you  to analyze web requests of your services  with fine-tuned filtering,  so you can focus your analysis  on the dimensions that matter most.   This view is easily configurable  and serves as a convenient starting point  for in-depth analysis of your services.  Select Multidimensional analysis  under Applications & Microservices  to open the Multidimensional analysis view.    With multidimensional analysis,  you can investigate and customize the following pre-defined views:   Top web requests,  Top Database statements,  and Exception analysis.  The Top web requests view enables you  to analyze the top web requests  across all your services  and to look for requests that originate from or are hitting specific URLs.   This view is easily configurable  and serves as a convenient starting point  for in-depth analysis of your services.  The Exception analysis view is a diagnostics feature that enables you to see which exceptions occurred  in your environment during the selected timeframe.  For each captured exception  in the exception table,  click the More actions button  and select Exception details  to open the Exception details page,  which helps you to understand  how the exception affects your Commerce cloud environment.  It provides an overview of exception messages;  a code-level stacktrace, where you can dig into  your code up to the method that had thrown the exception; and requests that are affected by the exception.  Select the exception message to filter the stacktrace and affected requests to the selected exception message.   You can further narrow down the scope  of analysis by applying filters.   Click in the Filtered by field  to see the available options.  The Top database statements view  enables you to understand the overall database activities rather than just the activity of a single database. This view can also be used to better analyze end-to-end database activities  during specific timeframes.  It displays a chart indicating  the top SQL statements in your environment  over time.  The chart also highlights a few top statements  based on execution count.   The table following the chart lists the top dimensions.  To access the SQL-statement-specific analysis views, including Service backtrace and Outliers analysis Select the More button in the Actions column. Select any of the preferred analysis view from the Analyze menu. You can directly access individual SQL statements analysis  by selecting Statement details from the Analyze menu of a specific SQL statement.  To access backtrace analysis for the selected statement,  select Service backtrace from the Analyze menu  The Backtrace page provides details  on the user interaction  that triggered the selected  SQL statement execution  and the user interaction or service request  that originated from the SQL statement.   Select any of the incoming requests  to view a visualization of the backtrace.  To understand the response time distribution  of the SQL command,  select Outliers from the Analyze menu.   The Response time distribution page  shows the number of requests  that fell within various response time ranges.  Select any column in the chart  to analyze the specific requests  that fell within that specific response time range.  To view the individual executions of each SQL command,  select Distributed traces > Trace from the Analyze menu.  Now you can select one of the pre-defined analysis queries that you want to customize,  or Create a custom analysis view.    Unlike the Data explorer tool,  multidimensional analysis uses trace  and request data, not metrics data,  so values on multidimensional analysis charts  might differ from values on custom charts.   Select Create analysis view button  to open the custom multidimensional analysis  view page, where you can analyze request metrics by dimensions like request names, service instance, and any other request attributes.  In the Configure view section,  select a metric from the dropdown  like Response time,   then select the Aggregation method  like 90th percentile,   select a dimension like services  from the Split mode dropdown.  You can optionally remove or ignore some of the data from the query results or charts by Filter requests, e.g., Http method = GET. As you configure or build the query on the top, the view in the middle is reloaded or refreshed dynamically to render the returned data in line/bar/area chart.  It also shows how many services are being analyzed.  Click on the Refine button  to manually refresh the view if needed. At the bottom of the page is the query results table showing the top dimensions,  along with the request data like request count  and processing time etc..  Once you’re done with the view configuration,  you can save the view by giving it a name.  Go back to the Multidimensional analysis page  you see the custom analysis view is listed in the table.  That’s it for Multidimensional analysis. Thank you for watching!!
