Comparing E-Commerce in SAP Commerce Cloud for B2B and B2C

Hello, my name is Jonathan. In this video, I will introduce some key  differences between e-commerce in business  to business, B2B and business to consumer,  B2C scenarios.  But before we get into the differences, there is  one thing we should keep in mind.  The B2B and B2C worlds have moved much  closer together, which makes sense  if you think about it.  Surfing the web during some downtime at  home, a B2B purchaser can jump onto a  webstore and buy a new pair of sneakers in  three clicks from a sofa at home.  Why should the experience be any different  when at the office, making a corporate purchase at a desk?  So, many features we already know from B2C  are also important in B2B.  An engaging and personalized storefront,  quick-load times, detailed product information,  and I'm sure you can think of many more  similarities.  But as I mentioned at the beginning,  there are some key differences too.  We can start before the first customer has even  entered a website.  While we are all used to browsing different vendors for a particular pair of sneakers to get  the best price, things are different in B2B.  Here, the relationship between merchant and buyer is more complex  and often more entwined.  So non-registered customers may be barred  from entering the storefront at all,  and the differences don't end there.  For example, when deciding to purchase, when ordering one pair of sneakers, it doesn't  usually affect the purchasing decision if 10 or  100 are available or if  the price has gone from.  Say, 99, 95 dollars to 99, 99 dollars,  but in a B2B world where an order may be for  hundreds or even thousands of pairs,  this may have a big effect.   So, having real-time information on stock and  price can be crucial in B2B. While in B2C,  other aspects might be more important. Speaking of prices, B2B customers are often  used to not paying list prices.  While we all appreciate a bargain,  B2B customers can expect individual price lists  or even enter custom price negotiations before  buying. Any B2B e-commerce platform needs to be  able to handle these more complex pricing  scenarios. Also, when ordering, there are more  complexities to keep in mind.  In B2C, customers generally order for  themselves or at least at their own expense.  In B2B, while not unheard of at all,  it is far less likely that someone will produce their own credit card.  So, a billing set-up needs to be catered for in a  B2B web store to keep processes moving along as usual.  The differences don't end with the creation of  an order.  While there are, of course, exceptions with  high end items, for example,  most B2C customers will not have a dedicated  salesperson responsible for them.  salesperson responsible for them.  This is totally different in the B2B world.  Here, account managers often handle direct contact with customers and  need a way to interact seamlessly with them.  As you can see, while there are many  similarities between B2B and B2C,  there are also significant differences to  consider. That is why SAP Commerce Cloud offers  solutions for B2B and B2C customers to handle  the significant differences. However, they are both based on the same  platform, so synergies can still be leveraged.
