Configure Backorder Processing (BOP) Segment & Sorting - SAP S/4HANA Supply Chain

Hello, everybody, and welcome to  microlearnings. My name is Markus Oertelt. I am an SAP S/4HANA Cloud Senior Solution  Advisor and I work in the area of SAP S/4HANA Product Success and Customer  Co-Innovation at SAP. During this microlearning, we will cover how to configure backorder  processing in advanced Available-to-Promise with focus on setting up segments and sorting  assignments. This is interesting for you as you can perform backorder processing to check material  availability when the demand or supply situation in your order fulfillment  process has changed, or you want to check if previously calculated confirmations for sales or stock  transfer orders are still realistic. If you're an SAP S/4HANA application  consultant, process consultant, or a project program  manager, this microlearning is especially for you. What's on the agenda? First, we will look at what backorder processing  is. After that, our main focus is to explain what a  backorder processing segment is and what it can do for you, and then also how I can use different sorting  strategies for my segments. Last but not least, we will then move to a short  system demonstration on how to configure segments and sorting. Let's meet Linda, who is an order fulfillment  manager for a company. What's happening in Linda's life? Linda's sales orders are increasing  tremendously. On the other hand, her warehouse stock is decreasing, and production and stock in transit have delivery  issues. Two questions for Linda arise. Linda is asking herself, How can I determine whether my confirmed  quantities are still realistic or not? And how can I automate rescheduling and redistribution of materials in limited supply? Don't worry, Linda, your colleague Ashley knows the answer. And the answer is backorder processing. How does it work? So first, when we look at the configure  backorder processing segments, we create a set of selections with which to  prioritize the distribution of supply when the demand for product and  sales or stock transport orders exceeds the available inventory or capacity. The next step, when you move into the sorting  phase, you can create sequences for prioritizing  requirements from sales and stock transport documents, according to specific  attributes. Then in a next step, when you move into the variance, you will set up  the strategies, including an optional combination of filters and  privatizes. That means a segment will be assigned to a confirmation strategy. And with this, you can automatically reschedule and redistribute materials in limited  supply. Then you want to schedule the whole thing. So  with scheduling, you can configure and schedule jobs for  executing backorder processing runs. Last but not least, when we go to the last step of monitoring the  backorder processing run, you can monitor or display the results of the backorder rooms that have been set up. So in this microlearning, our today's focus is the segments and sorting  capabilities. Let's start the system demonstration. Just imagine being Linda, remember her situation, demand is exceeding  supply. What did she do to solve that issue? Well, it's pretty easy because, as you  remember in the process, the first thing you have to set up the segments. You do that by clicking on the Configure  Backorder Processing Segment app. So I'm going to click on it. And here you can see that Linda set up four  segments to classify her requirements. And in her example, the customer is one filter  criteria. How did she do it, or what were her ideas behind  it? So, first she was thinking about her customers that should not be delivered. And she set up a segment, for example here the  pharma bad solvency, because she said those customers that do not pay my company, they should not be  delivered. The second segment she created is the pharma  promotion segment, because she was thinking about those customers that have big promotions  that usually pay on time, they should also be delivered on time with the right quantity, and they should get their  stuff. Then the third one she set up is the pharma all  others segment where she put in all the other segments or criteria of that  segment, coming from a sales order, or stock transfer  order is important. And the last one, she set up a pharma stock transfer order where she  included certain criteria. So, let's take a look at the pharma bad solvency  one. Let's go a little bit into the details. And here you can see for the first criterion, she chose the document type Base (Sales  Order). And the first selection condition is Sold-To  Party, because she noticed that this customer never  pays, so she decided with the backorder processing,  in her situation, when demand is exceeding supply, this  customer should not be delivered. Second, she looked at the promotions from her  customers. There she found that in the sales order that she has lots of promotions. But one customer really stuck out, and this customer here, she wants to protect. And also this customer is keen on this article. But wait a second, Linda just received also a  phone call from this customer, saying that this customer  wants to enter another material. How do you do that? So, by clicking on Edit in the segment, the segment is opening for entry. So now you can already click on the plus here  and add a new column. And as you can see, it has been perfectly  copied from above. We're very flexible, and you can see we have tons of criteria for this segmentation you can actually choose  from. But the customer really wants to have another  product from you. So Linda is going to put in vitamin B because  that's the product that's going into the promotion for this customer that's  specified up here. And she's going to save it. So now Linda wants to really make sure that the  segment works, and if the system really found some entries for that product so that the customer  didn't lie to Linda. And here with that nice stimulation, you can  really see your segments and the categories that come from the sales  orders. And you can see that the customer's really  right. And we already have some sales documents  with vitamin B products. I'm going to close this one here. I'm going back. And then she set up pharma all others. And in this segment she included all the plants that do deliver those products and that are under her umbrella of order  fulfillment responsibility. And she also included another criteria, Material  Staging/Availability Date is later than or on, and she specified 31 July. That is easily changeable as well, as you have  seen in the in the last segment. And you can see here, there is the sort  condition Sold-To Party, but this is the next step we're going to take a  look at. So, the last one is the stock transfer order, in  here she specified all the plants, so I'm not going to go into this one because I think you have seen how to set up the  segments. Second step Linda did was defining or  configuring the privatization of the requirements that were  filtered by a segment and now need further sorting. She did that by clicking on the app Configure Custom Backorder Processing  Sorting. And say, Go. Linda set up those two sorting sequences. And here is the first one for plants and for  material numbers. So when we take a look at the first sorting  capabilities, she specified that customers or stock transfer orders with  plant 1010 have the priority before other plants. And as second, you can see, all others she just  included so the system can actually calculate. The second sorting capabilities she set up is actually the material because she wanted to  make sure that this material, TG12, is actually for the promotion, and she wanted to make sure this material is  always in the pole position. And then she just said "All others". So, remember the vitamin B that our customer  also requested in a promotion? This one would make sense to edit here now. So, we would say vitamin B, and we can put this one in. And what you can see now, I want to really move this one up as I want to  have it secondly, but actually the customized promotions for  those two products. So I want to set them equally, actually, because I want to make sure that TG12 product  and vitamin B product are really then included in the backorder processing. So the customer gets both in equal value and  position. So I'm going to save this one. And going back into the app Configure BOP  Segment and we see here the related variants Linda has set up, maybe take a look at  this one condition. And there is a confirmation strategy behind it. How those confirmation strategies work or how you set them up is a future discussion. Before ending this microlearning, let's recap what we have covered, advanced  Available-to-Promise, what is the backorder
