Configuring Identity Resolution Using Matching and Merge Rules in SAP CDP

In this video, we'll walk you through the identity resolution features of the SAP Customer Data Platform. Let's perform a direct merge between an existing customer profile and incoming ingestion profile data. New customer data for John White will update the existing data for John Wick. Let's now look at the single existing customer named John Wick, with primary email john at email.com. Let's also make sure the profile's primary email attribute is set as application identifier. We now move to matching rules and erase all user-defined matching rules. Remember that system-defined matching rules cannot be changed or erased. Since we are not using cdpid, which is generated by the system when a new customer profile is ingested, we can ignore it in this demo. Let's add a matching rule to the profile's primary email and set it to merge the profile data when the incoming primary email content matches an existing customer's primary email. Let's make sure the event configuration has set primary email for the matching rule step.  We'll skip the remaining configuration steps and save our changes. Let's use the event playground to ingest some customer data. Set the primary email as john at email.com to trigger the matching rule let's set first name as john and last name as white then send the event for ingestion we can see here that the customer referenced by primary email john at email .com was updated to john white showing that the simple matching rule merged the incoming event data in this video we demonstrated how matching and merging rules play together with application identifiers and event configurations for merging customer data and avoid duplicates, maintaining consistency across your SAP Customer Data Platform business units.
